[00:00:00] - [Aaron]
The wife and I had our, like, had a little anniversary getaway thing this past weekend and Oh, nice. We were gonna go bowling but we had a couple hours to kill. So we were, like, okay, cool. Let's go to this, like, CD and like video game and like collectible place and try to kill some time. And I came like this close to buying a Guns N' Roses CD, but I was like, I'm not 45, why am I doing this?
[00:00:29] - [Greg]
Of all things you could have said, that would have that was not that wasn't in my top 50.
[00:00:46] - [Aaron]
Everybody hop on board super ghost. Hey. This is the show now. Hey. We're we're doing this thing.
[00:00:52] - [Aaron]
It's super ghost. It's just me and Greg this time around. Everybody else tapped out. Is there a bunch of wussy? No.
[00:00:58] - [Aaron]
I'm kidding. They're not wussies. I won't be kidding. Weak. Weak is what they are.
[00:01:03] - [Aaron]
Weak as
[00:01:04] - [Greg]
hell. Got a They're missing this this fucking kick ass model I found.
[00:01:09] - [Aaron]
It is pretty kick ass. It reminds me of It is. What's her face from Xenoblade two, Nia, I think. I
[00:01:18] - [Greg]
I wouldn't know. Oh. This could be a licensed character, honestly. I don't know.
[00:01:23] - [Aaron]
It
[00:01:24] - [Greg]
More more often than not, these models are, like, end up being licensed characters.
[00:01:29] - [Aaron]
One of these days, we're gonna get hit with a with a hard, like, cease and desist to prompt, like, read on YouTube.
[00:01:34] - [Greg]
Yeah. Then, like, my video feed will just have
[00:01:37] - [Aaron]
to be black boxed. No. You could do, like, a doodle, like like, animated doodles or something or just have a GIF going the entire time. It's the same, like Yeah. It's mister Burns I got ketchup.
[00:01:48] - [Aaron]
Ketchup.
[00:01:51] - [Greg]
It's legally distinct is what if.
[00:01:54] - [Aaron]
Your honor, in my defense, it was legally distinct.
[00:01:59] - [Greg]
Yeah. I mean, I this is legally distinct, anime girl.
[00:02:08] - [Aaron]
Goddamn right. We're legally distinct super girl. This is the
[00:02:11] - [Greg]
Oh, shit.
[00:02:12] - [Aaron]
The most oh, no. Hold on.
[00:02:19] - [Greg]
Alright. Sorry about that. Now we are we're back.
[00:02:22] - [Aaron]
We're back in biz this just in. This is not super important breaking news, I just got a notification that tracks from Animal Crossing New Leaf have been added to Nintendo music. So drop what you're doing and listen to that instead, I think.
[00:02:36] - [Greg]
Hell, yeah. Hell, yeah. Instead? No. Alongside.
[00:02:41] - [Greg]
Sorry. Concurrent concurrently too. Exactly.
[00:02:43] - [Aaron]
Be the perfect companion. Not that New Horizons shit, new leaf. So you remember the whole thing with Soulja Boy where he was He made a console? Yeah. He made a console, and then I forget if it was either crap or if he was selling, like, knockoffs and people called him out for it.
[00:03:03] - [Aaron]
But this time around, Soulja Boy, like, posted us posted this fucking video of him with a it's a Retroid let me find it. Oh, it's a Retroid Flip two, or sorry, Retroid Pocket Flip two, which is a mouthful. Retroid Pocket Flip two, and he's selling them, like, with inflated prices, selling them as the the Soulja Boy, or I think that's what it's calling it. Like, the Soul yeah. Soulja Boy, or I don't know what the fuck.
[00:03:32] - [Aaron]
Basically, yeah, he's take he's buying these consoles from Retroid and then reselling them as his own thing. And then and then jacking up the price. Typical typical Soulja Boy. Fucking Yeah. So good.
[00:03:48] - [Aaron]
Thank you, Soulja Boy, for blessing us today. Thank you, Soul.
[00:03:53] - [Greg]
I saw that fighting EX Lair is like 99Β’ on the PS Store. Oh. You want a if you want a good cheap fighting game with characters you've never heard of.
[00:04:06] - [Aaron]
Goddamn. Let's just get back into fighting games again. I Alright. Don't tell me. Not not to be the whole episode, but listen, like, shortly after we did that episode, I went and bought the Samurai Showdown collection on Switch, and I I was like, dude, I'm gonna get really fucking good at Samurai Showdown too.
[00:04:27] - [Aaron]
I'm gonna get so good at this game. People are like, they're just gonna be like, oh, he's so good. But no, I didn't get very good at it. I I played as oh my gosh. What's his name?
[00:04:41] - [Aaron]
He's got, like I think it's blue or silver hair, and he always has his sword in the in the hilts. In the hilts,
[00:04:47] - [Greg]
and he cuts apples. Right?
[00:04:49] - [Aaron]
Yes. Yeah.
[00:04:49] - [Greg]
Yeah. I don't I don't know his name.
[00:04:52] - [Aaron]
I think it's I'm I know his name. Shooting from the hip. I think it's Ugo. Okay. There we go.
[00:04:58] - [Aaron]
Got it. Ukyo Tachibana.
[00:05:01] - [Greg]
Alright. Cool. Cool. Yeah. I I know exactly what we're talking about, but that's but his name?
[00:05:05] - [Greg]
Nope. Didn't know
[00:05:06] - [Aaron]
that one. Other super important breaking news. This just in, dude. Tito's back. In the last episode that Jerry and I did about rogue likes, Tito was MIA.
[00:05:20] - [Aaron]
He was last seen at at Best Buy with one sandal. He lost his sandal somewhere, but he's back. He's currently, as of three days ago, in a shower with his pit vipers on. So Tito's back, baby. We're we're all good.
[00:05:35] - [Greg]
I have a I I have a quick question.
[00:05:37] - [Aaron]
Yes.
[00:05:38] - [Greg]
Who the fuck is
[00:05:39] - [Aaron]
Tito? Go to facebook.com/pineapples and you'll know. I'm pretty sure that's his Facebook URL. It's just facebook.com/pineapples. It's it's this Facebook page where someone just like they'll they'll post like a static image of of Tito from Rocket Power, but they'll change it in like dumb small ways and they'll like they have a little story around it.
[00:06:09] - [Aaron]
Like, there's this one where Tito with flavor blasted goldfish and it's missing sandal. Then you it just says, I spent $12,000 at Best Buy. I threw a football to TV and it broke and then it's just like a bunch of other stuff. But it's just it's the most, like, stupid garbage Aaron humor, like Aaron thing ever, and it's so good. Hey.
[00:06:35] - [Aaron]
You know what? God bless Tito. God bless Tito. Thank you. No.
[00:06:39] - [Aaron]
Tito bless you. There we go. That's it for me for news though. That's the only thing that really struck me.
[00:06:46] - [Greg]
Yeah. It's a slower news week, I think, from what I saw. Like, I checked condemned criminal origins has been delisted from Steam and Xbox without explanation which usually means a new version is coming out.
[00:07:00] - [Aaron]
Oh, okay. That could be cool. I still say that we need to get like a remake of that game or maybe like a reboot but like with more cop stuff because I feel like the cop stuff was very short lived. They did like maybe two or three missions or whatever with all the cop like forensic stuff. And then they were like, nope, you're homeless and crazy now.
[00:07:22] - [Greg]
I've played I know nothing about that game besides that. It was,
[00:07:26] - [Aaron]
at the
[00:07:26] - [Greg]
time, the most violent video game ever.
[00:07:30] - [Aaron]
I'm sorry for spoiling that part for you. God damn it.
[00:07:32] - [Greg]
Now, don't need to play it. Hey, listen. You know what? Not enough cop stuff in it for me because that's what I want to be.
[00:07:41] - [Aaron]
I kind of had the same problem with Astral Chain. Did you play Astral Chain at all?
[00:07:45] - [Greg]
No. Okay. Well,
[00:07:47] - [Aaron]
yeah. It's
[00:07:48] - [Greg]
That game had not enough cop stuff in it? Yeah. I thought it was all cops.
[00:07:53] - [Aaron]
No. It was like I think it was maybe like half and half really. It was like the first half is doing cop stuff basically with your Jojo stand that had different cool forms. And then something happens and then you're not a cop for like the last half of the game, and you're in the digital world and like a bunch of other shit, but
[00:08:15] - [Greg]
it as it goes always in the digital world. Yep. That was a platinum game, wasn't it?
[00:08:21] - [Aaron]
Yes, it was. It was awesome. They'll come up later. What the heck are you playing? Are you are you still playing Ninja Gaiden four or
[00:08:40] - [Greg]
Well, I I'm playing Ninja Gaiden four right now. I'm back on Uma Musume. I missed too much time. I can't even I can't even imagine the the amount of of horse girls I I didn't pull for. So I mean, oh my gosh, they're they're gone now forever.
[00:08:58] - [Greg]
But back on that, you know, picking up where I left off and I just platinumed Ghost of Yote.
[00:09:08] - [Aaron]
Oh, shit. Hell, yeah.
[00:09:10] - [Greg]
Yeah. Played the shit out of
[00:09:12] - [Aaron]
that game. How long did that take?
[00:09:15] - [Greg]
About I finished the story in about, like, somewhere between forty five and fifty hours and Oh, god. And I got the platinum somewhere between fifty and sixty. Let's call it 55.
[00:09:31] - [Aaron]
Oh, okay. For for a second there, my brain was trying to do, like, forty five plus the 60 you said at the end, and I was like, oh, my god. No. But No. 60 $50.60 total.
[00:09:44] - [Aaron]
That that's pretty good for platinum. Yeah. Yeah. And it
[00:09:47] - [Greg]
I and, like, I I I sit to myself with a guide obviously, but but yeah. That it was it was it it wasn't too hard. I I will platinum a game if it's easy and doesn't have any Hell yeah. Stupid, so That
[00:10:04] - [Aaron]
was that was me with Doritos crash course on the three sixty. I I I'm 100% of that. I mean, there's only like, I think like five, like five or seven achievements, but I was like, oh, I'm getting all of these.
[00:10:17] - [Greg]
There's no way I'm not. Got to. For the Doritos game, absolutely, you need to do that. Yeah. They did a
[00:10:23] - [Aaron]
lot of those. I missed those. We met Doritos games, goddamn it. Or more more corporations to put up more video games.
[00:10:34] - [Greg]
Where we need to go back to the golden era of the nineties with, like, Cool Spot and
[00:10:38] - [Aaron]
Cool Spot was so good. Yeah.
[00:10:40] - [Greg]
And, like, the the and the Noids video game and shit like that.
[00:10:44] - [Aaron]
Didn't Chester Cheetah have a game at one point? I would not be surprised. That'd be so fucking cool. It's just Chester Cheetah and you're just like, you're huffing joints and like trying desperately to get a job, but no one will hire you because you keep failing your piss test or something. Cheetos That'd cool.
[00:11:00] - [Aaron]
Video game. Oh, He's gotta be one.
[00:11:03] - [Greg]
He had one on on Super Nintendo.
[00:11:05] - [Aaron]
Oh, I was thinking that or Genesis. Damn it.
[00:11:08] - [Greg]
Oh, Chester Too cool to fool. He's riding a motorcycle. Yeah. We know who we know we know who's going on the thumbnail for the Samurai Ninja episode. Chest and Cheetah.
[00:11:22] - [Greg]
Chest and Cheetah riding a motorcycle.
[00:11:27] - [Aaron]
They should do, like you know, it's 2025. I want, like, Mountain Dew presents the world championship of, like, hacky sack or some, like, like, c list sport. Not, like, not, like, a b list sport, like, javelin throwing or something, but something, like, real barely a sport type of sport, like Mountain Dew presents log rolling or whatever that's called where you like run on the logs that are in the water and try not to fall off. That'd be cool.
[00:12:02] - [Greg]
What's what, like, corporate mascot would have a video game in 2025? Like, you gave, like, flow from progressive giving people car insurance.
[00:12:17] - [Aaron]
I oh, okay. Okay. Okay. Here's a pitch. Here's a pitch.
[00:12:21] - [Aaron]
So Grand Theft Auto, but it's Flo. So, like, Flo is, like, she's running into traffic and, like, she yanks you out of your car with a gun to your head. And she's like, have you bundled your home and auto insurance? And if you say, like, whether you say yes or no, you're you're dead and Flo has now taken your car and and or your identity. But rest assured knowing that your family will,
[00:12:48] - [Greg]
you know, be insured. It'll be taken care of.
[00:12:51] - [Aaron]
Or it can
[00:12:51] - [Greg]
be Papa John Schneider trying to keep his company.
[00:12:56] - [Aaron]
Oh, fuck. Oh. Oh, hang on. There's there's a game brewing here. So, like, the the Yakuza seven, like, the the cookie or, like, cracker company management sim, that but, like, Papa John's.
[00:13:11] - [Aaron]
But it's way more graphic. Like, it's him just eating pizza after pizza after pizza. It's not the same. And he was just like
[00:13:18] - [Greg]
Getting really sweaty.
[00:13:21] - [Aaron]
Yep. Yep. And shiny. That'd be a good one. Shiny.
[00:13:24] - [Aaron]
He was really fucking shiny. He was a disgusting human being
[00:13:29] - [Greg]
in f inside and out. Let us be the first to say, fuck you, Papa John. Well, definitely not the first. It's a super ghost's first. Fuck you, Papa John.
[00:13:42] - [Aaron]
There's there's just gonna be, like, a big stamp on the screen. Fuck you, Papa John.
[00:13:48] - [Greg]
Yeah. Exactly.
[00:13:51] - [Aaron]
I can't recall any other corporate mascots. Like, I feel like they don't unless it's a serial, maybe. They don't even
[00:13:56] - [Greg]
use mascots. Wendy doesn't have a game?
[00:14:00] - [Aaron]
You know what? It's time to change that ship.
[00:14:03] - [Greg]
Yeah. Or or get, like I'm not just thinking about food now. Get, like, you know, somebody in a big hat going to people and telling them that Arby's has the meats or some shit. Finding some way to tell people that Arby's has the meats.
[00:14:17] - [Aaron]
Oh, the the tuna guy. The fish. Charlie yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
[00:14:23] - [Aaron]
The fish? Of course. Might not get him a game. Echo the dolphin, but it's Charlie the tuna or whatever the fuck his name is. I've never seen that tuna in water.
[00:14:35] - [Aaron]
Now you will. It's way more aliens.
[00:14:37] - [Greg]
It's like a it's like a versus game with with that and, like, the the high line sailor. It's like Moby Dick.
[00:14:48] - [Aaron]
Just Smash Bros Ultimate,
[00:14:51] - [Greg]
but it's like the ultimate mascot collaboration, like, We're just describing the movie Food Fight. Is that a movie? Oh, my gosh. Is it ever? It's like a movie.
[00:15:02] - [Greg]
It was like some like I don't I don't remember who funded it, but it's like a movie set in a grocery store. It's basically Toy Story with brands set in a grocery store, and it's, like it's it took years and years to make. It had like, it's the most low budget looking thing you've ever seen, but it has, like, a pretty decent voice cast. Like, the main character, which in all these, like, grocery bands brands is just, like, a dog detective that looks like Indiana Jones voiced by Oh, my god. Voiced by Charlie Sheen.
[00:15:34] - [Greg]
This looks so good. Yeah. There's a squirrel that's voiced by Wayne Brady. There's Christopher Lloyd plays, like, the villain one of the villains.
[00:15:48] - [Aaron]
There's this, like, there's a there's a lady with cat ears behind the dog guy.
[00:15:55] - [Greg]
Yeah. Yeah. That's she's That's her name is, like, sunshine sparkle or something. She's very, like, I think, like, a dish soap mascot or something. I forgot what she is.
[00:16:05] - [Aaron]
There's I'm looking at this fucking image on Google for food. It's like a a poster for Food Fight and it's like it's listing off the cat. They're not oh my gosh. Listing off the cast and it says, Lawrence Kasanov, Lawrence Kasanov, Lawrence with Lawrence Kasanov, and and Lawrence Kasanov.
[00:16:23] - [Greg]
Well, now we know Food fight. That movie. It's a real mess because, like, you'll have, like, these brands they made up made up for the movie and then just, like, random ass, like, actual brands, and you don't know how Like, Pickles. Yeah. Like, that stork from, like, Phil Essent Pickles will be there, or the Charlie the tuna's there and stuff like that.
[00:16:42] - [Greg]
Charlie the tuna's actually there. I do remember him. But just like a bunch of shit like that. It's a real train wreck of a movie.
[00:16:49] - [Aaron]
We need to do that for a watch party. We'll do that for like for the Patreon or sometime.
[00:16:53] - [Greg]
Oh, man. I did that I did that once. I don't know that I can do it again.
[00:16:56] - [Aaron]
Yes. You can. You gotta do it for us. Alright.
[00:16:59] - [Greg]
I'll do it. I'll do it. If only to experience with people who have not experienced it before because Food Fight is something else.
[00:17:07] - [Aaron]
We'll we'll do that. And then then we'll do like we'll play Animal Soccer World. Have you ever heard of that game before? I haven't. Oh, my God.
[00:17:15] - [Aaron]
Get out get your phone and I want you to look up Animal Soccer World PS two. It's a PS two game, Greg.
[00:17:23] - [Greg]
Oh, okay. I see that. That's like alright.
[00:17:26] - [Aaron]
It's real bad. What the fuck? Oh, I've
[00:17:29] - [Greg]
seen I've seen some of these images before.
[00:17:32] - [Aaron]
The same dude, like, with the the same one guy does the voice acting for every character in the game.
[00:17:40] - [Greg]
This looks like an animated movie out of, like, Nigeria.
[00:17:44] - [Aaron]
Yeah. And, like, there there's no lip syncing or anything. It's just the animal animals going, I
[00:17:56] - [Greg]
can't see how this game plays based on, like, the images. Like, how is it is it I don't it, like, is it a game that can be played, or is it, like, like, like a dragon's lair situation? Like, I'm trying to see.
[00:18:10] - [Aaron]
Moist Critical did a video of it way back in the day, back when he did like the when he didn't show his his face and he did like the the bad gameplay videos. He did one with that and I'm struggling to remember what the fuck it was like. I I only remember the cut scenes because the animals are just, no, no, no, no, the entire time. The the the games you're playing though, you're you're playing how how is Ninja Gaiden four? I think Cherry was supposed to tell us about that.
[00:18:37] - [Aaron]
No. Did he? Did he tell us about Ninja Gaiden four yet?
[00:18:42] - [Greg]
He said he was going to, so but maybe he he held off on it. But I think
[00:18:46] - [Aaron]
he did. Who cares? How is it?
[00:18:48] - [Greg]
Let me tell you. This game plays like it it play it's it's really fun to play. It's fluid it's fluid like character action game con combat. I'm struggling a bit because I'm still in yotai mentally. Oh.
[00:19:04] - [Greg]
So I keep hitting the wrong buttons, but it's it's it's fast and it's pretty fluid. That being said, it's really hard to play because the main character fucking sucks. He's the absolute worst. I hate him. And I all I'm doing is I'm playing, I'm like, oh my god.
[00:19:20] - [Greg]
I wish I could be playing as Ryu Hayabusa, but instead, I'm playing as fucking Yakamo, a fucking piece of shit, and I hate him.
[00:19:29] - [Aaron]
Yakamo. Fucking Yakamo. Yakamo.
[00:19:32] - [Greg]
Yeah. He's amazing. Yakamo. Yamaka. And he's he's fucking terrible.
[00:19:38] - [Greg]
He's still, like, he's, like, the most, like, 2,002 Edgelord character you've ever seen in your life. He's, like, it's like, as soon like, I played the game for, like, ten minutes, and then I was, like, the SpongeBob meme where it's, oh, brother, this guy stinks. Like, he's the fucking worst. Let me tell you about Giacomo here. Okay?
[00:20:01] - [Greg]
Oh, jeez. So, I'll explain all the ways that he is super edgy. Number one, his katanas, they're not out all the time. I was trying to find them on his body, but I I could only see the hilts. That's because he materialized his katanas out of blood.
[00:20:17] - [Aaron]
That's cool, but, yeah, really lame at the same time.
[00:20:21] - [Greg]
Yeah. He and then, like, he can fuse his katanas into one, like, big blood katana and stuff like that when you hold a hold a button. And then my God. Well, I noticed this last night. So when you're in the the heavy katana stance with a fuse into one and you're you're holding it like a samurai, I was like, oh, he's got a scarf.
[00:20:40] - [Greg]
Because, like, a scarf material. He's around his neck when he was in that stance. And then I looked closer, and Aaron, this mother's this motherfucker's scarf, It was not a scarf at all. Blood? No.
[00:20:52] - [Greg]
It was worse. It was a single black bird's wing. It wasn't a scarf at all. It was a single wing. I audibly said by myself in my apartment alone, what the fuck?
[00:21:08] - [Aaron]
Oh, my God. Yep. This is sounding more and more like your typical, like, 2003 MySpace emo kid.
[00:21:18] - [Greg]
Just like everybody just like, oh, you know what would be cool if we do this? Oh, you know what else would
[00:21:21] - [Aaron]
be cool?
[00:21:21] - [Greg]
If we do that. And it's going kept going on and on and on and adding adding more things. Like, Ryu Hayabusa is cool because he's simple. You look at him, you know exactly what his deal is. This guy, I I don't know.
[00:21:36] - [Greg]
He's he's he's got too much on. He's the entire Hot Topic. Like, he's out of control. And also Uh-oh. A ton tons of things aren't uh-oh.
[00:21:46] - [Greg]
Uh-oh. We're on a we're on a rant. Buckle up. Like, he's he's like, I have a mission. Have to kill this priestess.
[00:21:54] - [Greg]
Like, that's his voice. And then, like, he that's the first mission.
[00:21:56] - [Aaron]
That's that's really his voice. He's the typical, like
[00:21:59] - [Greg]
Yeah.
[00:21:59] - [Aaron]
Of course. I'm gonna talk like this the
[00:22:00] - [Greg]
whole game. That's of Of course, that's his voice. Cool. Perfect. So he has to go, and he's like his the first mission is like he's gotta go kill this priestess to like stop the demon whatever.
[00:22:11] - [Greg]
It doesn't matter. And so he go the demon dragon, I think is what
[00:22:17] - [Aaron]
it is. So he goes Sweet.
[00:22:19] - [Greg]
So he goes in and then he he goes to the priestess, and then the the she's she's fucking like, actually, you can kill me if you want, but don't kill me because if you don't kill me, then, you know, we can resurrect the the dragon and make it good. His whole deal the game tells you that he's been training his entire life to kill this woman. She says two sentences to him, he's like, okay, cool. Let's go. And then then that's that's that's impetus for the game.
[00:22:48] - [Greg]
And it's like I'm like, my guy, I'm not convinced. I would've cut her head off right then and there. You you nothing. This is your whole life?
[00:22:56] - [Aaron]
Holy shit. And then something this
[00:22:58] - [Greg]
was just something I also I I made a correlation between last night, it didn't make sense. So, like, he'll you you you, like, kill a bunch of people really gruesomely with your with your your swords, and you're covered in blood. Your swords are covered in blood, and then you flick your swords to get the blood off, and then they just turn back into blood and you sheath them. Like, why are we cleaning these swords? What's the point?
[00:23:18] - [Greg]
Just and and it's it's things like that watching, and I'm like, why? It doesn't make sense. You you would think they would get more powerful from having more blood. You would think. I guess that's that's that's actually a a scathing indictment on the game, because, like, if I'm paying attention to him cleaning off the blood on his swords and putting them away, I'm not paying attention to anything fucking else that's happening in the game.
[00:23:40] - [Aaron]
So
[00:23:40] - [Greg]
that's probably not a good sign for it. It plays really fun and some of the visuals are really cool, but like that's that's as much as I can say for this game so far. But I'm only on chapter, I think, three. So I mean, it's it's early. Okay.
[00:23:54] - [Greg]
It's early.
[00:23:55] - [Aaron]
Do you even though you're on chapter three, have you played as as Ryu at all? Or has it just been
[00:24:01] - [Greg]
No. I haven't even I saw him in one single cutscene. Despite the fact that he is Man. He is giant on the cover of of this game, I've seen him in one singular cutscene. I saw Ryu Hayabusa, and I looked it up, and, spoiler alerts, you play as Ryu for 15% of the game, and 85% of the game, you're playing as Yakumo.
[00:24:26] - [Greg]
Now, you can, like, new game plus level select and play every level as as as Ryu, but I mean, I don't know. Do they do they explain why you're playing as I mean,
[00:24:38] - [Aaron]
I know I know, like, I don't know. It's just the pool There has
[00:24:43] - [Greg]
been there has been no reason that's been explained to me as to why I'm not playing as Ryu Hayabusa. The game is showing me he's there, but it's not told me why I'm not allowed to beat him. Yeah. Like They really wanted to tell Yakamo's story.
[00:25:01] - [Aaron]
Wait. Is is Yakamo, like, related to Ryu in any way? Is he, like, his disciple or anything like that or Not some random random kid?
[00:25:08] - [Greg]
Not even a little bit. He's he's he's as far as I can tell and again, only chapter three, maybe I'm wrong,
[00:25:17] - [Aaron]
no relation to Ibus at all. So The doesn't even know the guy, like, at least in like Devil May Cry four when you play as Nero, it's then Nero's just like, well, the guy who I think is Dante took my girlfriend, but like, does he even know who Ryu is in that game?
[00:25:36] - [Greg]
Not that I that has not been explained to me as of yet. I would imagine because like, Ryu is like legendary in this world, so I'm sure he does know who he is, But he hasn't even been mentioned by the characters that I'm playing right now. And, like, Devil May Cry four, like, yeah, like, you you start off as Nero. Nero isn't even, like, 10% as edgy as this guy. Like, Nero Nero's whole, like, whole thing is, like, he's just, like, a he's an upstart teen, basically, and, like Yeah.
[00:26:08] - [Greg]
With a with a fun arm. But at least you get to play the game is fifty fifty Nero Nero Dante, basically. This does not appear But to be the but I would be remiss if I didn't say it was it was it was fun to play.
[00:26:23] - [Aaron]
I keep meaning to get into these goddamn games, but there's so many now at this point. Like, I should have gotten into them back when there was only like fucking like two or three of the three d ones, but now there's just so many and now there's a new two d one. I don't eventually, I'll get
[00:26:40] - [Greg]
into these. I've heard rage ragebound. Right? I've heard I've heard that's good. I would say I would say as someone who's played a lot of them, I haven't played ragebound yet bound yet.
[00:26:48] - [Greg]
But I would say, play one, play two, play ragebound, call it a day. Haven't even played Sigma. I I heard it wasn't very good. Maybe I'm wrong. Listeners, feel free to correct me, but I feel like you can skip Sigma.
[00:27:14] - [Aaron]
I was gonna try to beat in the last episode with me and Jerry and Beth, was talking about Lisa the painful and I was gonna try to beat Lisa the Joyful. But there's a boss that is kicking my ass repeatedly, so I'm giving up on that for a hot minute. And now, I'm playing Ys Origin. Have you heard of that game at all?
[00:27:37] - [Greg]
I know I I know of Ys. I've never played it.
[00:27:40] - [Aaron]
The original version came out in 2006 for PCs. Blah blah blah blah blah. There's a version on Switch that's really really good because this game plays way better on a controller than it does on a mouse and keyboard. It's real weird to play on a mouse and keyboard. Well, everything's weird for me to play on mouse and keyboard because I'm a I'm a controllers they're not a controller.
[00:28:01] - [Aaron]
Well, I guess, yeah, a console controller stand. But it's it's pretty much an action RPG. Like, you're you pick between one of two characters, one being like a melee heavy axe wielding knight girl and she spins around and it just done there's lots of axe attacks. The other one is this mage guy that can shoot different, like, different different types of elemental bullets like fire, lightning, and I forgot what the other ones were. But I I started playing this on GOG back when I first got my laptop.
[00:28:39] - [Aaron]
And I gave up about like halfway through, I think because I got stuck on a boss, typical air and garbage, get stuck on a boss and give up. Yeah. I stopped playing and I was I was playing as the mage guy. But then picked it up for Switch, decided to give it another try playing as the axe girl. It's great.
[00:28:58] - [Aaron]
And it's really cool because like each like you won't go the same route, like through the same route with each character, like each each character's route through. So I guess each character's route through the story and like the bosses they fight and the rooms they go through and the tower, they'll talk about a little bit. All that's totally different for each character but yeah. It all starts off in Origin takes place, I think it's like ten thousand years before the first Ys game and it takes so what is it? The Land Of Ys.
[00:29:33] - [Aaron]
Basically, Ys is the name of like the world that the series takes in and the game that you'll be playing as one of two characters who are going through this tower where these these two goddesses are, I guess, slumbering or hiding away or something. And yeah, you're just going through this tower level by level by level and it's gigantic And there's all sorts of enemies that you'll fight and beat the shit out of them, level up. And there's all sorts of cool power ups you can find as well too, like you can get some like for the axe girl, you can get an ability that changes her her, like, spinning axe into, like, a fire sword. Okay. Because with the sword, you'll have more reach.
[00:30:21] - [Aaron]
And I forgot what the other trade offs are. Like, with the axe, you'll you'll just do more damage. You'll have more, like like more of an arc to your attacks. And then you'll get you'll get all sorts of shit like a like a mask that lets you see hidden doors. Like, you'll you'll see hidden doors and hidden passageways, but this but enemies will also be invisible, so you won't be able to see them on the screen if you have that mask on the whole time, so take it off to see enemies, kill them, and then put it back on.
[00:30:53] - [Aaron]
It's a real fun game. It's kind of like it's it's kinda short. It's like five hours to complete a playthrough with each character. And when you beat it with I forget if it's one of the first two or both of those first two, you'll unlock a third character. And then if you beat it with that third character, you get like the true ending to the game.
[00:31:16] - [Aaron]
And it it it'll tie a lot into the the other games in the series. Well, mostly like the first game because the tower that you're in throughout Ys Origin, that's like the last area you go to in the first Ys game. So if anybody's played that, they'll they'll pick up that for sure. But it's it's good. It's great.
[00:31:35] - [Aaron]
It's a good time.
[00:31:36] - [Greg]
Awesome. Fucking cool as hell. There's like a like a ton of East games. Yeah. There's,
[00:31:44] - [Aaron]
I guess, 11 now including origins because origins isn't numbered, but there's 10 there's think East 10 is the newest one. Yes. Because it's Nordics. So there's 11. Yeah.
[00:31:57] - [Aaron]
Interesting.
[00:31:59] - [Greg]
And it's literally on everything.
[00:32:02] - [Aaron]
Yeah. Goddamn near everything. I think I think with the with the exception of one game, they're all on PC as well. Like, they're on GOG except for Ys five, I think. Yeah.
[00:32:20] - [Aaron]
There's just one game that hasn't been translated to English, hasn't been ported to other shit over here, but it's what's cool about the series is that, like, with with say with, like, Final Fantasy, each game has its own little, like, universe, its own little stories. It's got maybe, like, some I guess, like, shared similarities like Chocobos, Moogles, all that shit, Firaga, Blissaga, all that. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
[00:32:50] - [Aaron]
And then kinda same with with Dragon Quest, but with Ys, it's all the same, like, it's it's the same universe in each game and it's like the same kind of the same character with the with the exception of Ys Origins, you're playing as like the same character. It's Adol Kristin. It's just him in a different point of his life going through some different adventure. And I forget what the exact the chronology to each game is because they're they're all out of place. After the first two games, they're all out of place.
[00:33:24] - [Aaron]
But playing them in order is really cool. You'll pick up a lot of cool little details about like like an origin. You'll pick up this what is it? It's an elixir. I think it's called a Falganon elixir or Falgana elixir and Falgana is where you go in the fourth game or something.
[00:33:42] - [Aaron]
It's a real cool and wacky series and the combat changes a lot too. Like in the first couple of games, it was this like bump combat system where you, like, bump into an enemy and add a little swipe or or slash or whatever. And then and I think, like, the third and fourth game, it's like a side scrolling RPG, kinda like Legend of Zelda two. And then I think from at another point, it becomes pretty much what Ys Origin is where it's like almost like Link to the Past, like a three d Link to the Past kind of. And then now it's just like a full blown action RPG, like you're doing combos and chaining together, like, special attacks and you have, like, ultra mega attacks.
[00:34:34] - [Aaron]
I forgot what the exact names of them are. And then you can switch between party members at will and it's a it's a ton of fun. Like the newer ones especially are just a a shit ton of fun.
[00:34:44] - [Greg]
So I I wasn't kidding. The Ys is on literally every console going as far back as the Sega Master System to tidbit. And even before the the it was on, like, old PCs back when, like, TV companies made a a a PC and sold it, like, a Sharp x one PC. Was on there. And it and continues all the way up until, like, PS five and Switch two and Stadia.
[00:35:13] - [Greg]
The only thing it missed Stadia. The only thing it missed is is Xbox series because I guess like, they're like, no one who's got an Xbox series is gonna play Ys. I
[00:35:27] - [Aaron]
think they might have missed the Nokia N Gage too. I mean, there's a Hold ton of those
[00:35:32] - [Greg]
on. Don't be so sure. Literally, don't be so sure because it has mobile ports, so it could very well
[00:35:38] - [Aaron]
be playable on an N I hope not.
[00:35:43] - [Greg]
Yeah. Well, it just says blanket mobile phones. So, like,
[00:35:48] - [Aaron]
That wouldn't surprise me. Well, no. I got I don't know. I don't remember if I think the nGauge yeah. The nGauge had its own, like, cartridges or I forgot what exactly they were, but you had to, like, to change the games that you wanted to play on it.
[00:36:02] - [Aaron]
You had to take you'd turn the phone off, take out the battery, change the cartridge or I whatever
[00:36:07] - [Greg]
didn't know
[00:36:07] - [Aaron]
you put the battery back in. Yeah. I think it a nightmare.
[00:36:10] - [Greg]
What were they thinking?
[00:36:12] - [Aaron]
It's no mean, no wonder Nokia's not around anymore.
[00:36:16] - [Greg]
Okay. It does not look like it made it to N Gauge.
[00:36:19] - [Aaron]
Okay. Thank God. Tony Hawk,
[00:36:21] - [Greg]
Pro Skater, and and Rayman made it, but not East.
[00:36:24] - [Aaron]
Of course, Rayman made it. Rayman's on everything too, I'm pretty sure. Well, no. It wasn't on Master System. Never mind.
[00:36:32] - [Greg]
It's on it's on a lot. I East is on East is on more.
[00:36:36] - [Aaron]
Oh, yeah. I think Rayman goes
[00:36:39] - [Greg]
back to the Saturn, I think, is as far back as Rayman goes. That sounds about right. Yeah. Because I think
[00:36:46] - [Aaron]
the first game was PS one and Saturn. And I'm pretty sure Nope. That version of Completely the
[00:36:54] - [Greg]
wrong. It was also on the Atari Jaguar. Ew.
[00:37:02] - [Aaron]
God, the Atari Jaguar feels like
[00:37:05] - [Greg]
Well, Rayman store at. Rayman was on Palm OS. Like, get my Palm Pilot out, my stylus and play Rayman.
[00:37:11] - [Aaron]
Oh, dude. Or the Palm Pixie.
[00:37:14] - [Greg]
Hell yeah. Anyway, yeah. He's been on a lot. He's been on a lot.
[00:37:17] - [Aaron]
Oh, man. I miss the Palm Pixie. I miss I miss early ass smartphones, like, beginning of the smartphone era ass smartphones. Remember those,
[00:37:27] - [Greg]
like Oh, I was I was selling phones at that time.
[00:37:30] - [Aaron]
Don't I I remember all
[00:37:31] - [Greg]
of these.
[00:37:32] - [Aaron]
Fucking big ass BlackBerrys and like, oh, the the what is it? The droid the droid bionic or droid oh, man. There was it was there was one called like droid bionic, I believe is what it was called. And my my friend Jared had one of those for the longest time and it was like it was like this fucking thick. It was like an ice cream sandwich that you
[00:37:55] - [Greg]
could like take phone calls on and ship. Phones had such a weird trajectory of like, first people wanted them fucking small as possible, then they wanted big as possible. And now we're at like the middle ground.
[00:38:10] - [Aaron]
Yeah. Like everybody wanted like your your smartphone was your center for everything, music, books, TV, whatever. Now people
[00:38:19] - [Greg]
We're are like was. It it still is.
[00:38:22] - [Aaron]
Yep. Well, I mean, there's some people that are like, well, I like to keep my music separate and they'll have like a separate m p three player or like, there there there was a project that I think I remember Apple doing where they were gonna make like a case for their maybe no, maybe it's a knockoff phone. There were some like other phone company that was starting this project where the back of their phones were basically like they could be used as a Game Boy. So you're yeah. I forget
[00:38:54] - [Greg]
what
[00:38:54] - [Aaron]
I
[00:38:54] - [Greg]
don't remember who made it, but I do remember this. So ninjas and samurai. Yeah.
[00:39:13] - [Aaron]
Speaking of smartphones, yeah.
[00:39:14] - [Greg]
Speaking of smartphones, feudal Japan.
[00:39:18] - [Aaron]
Oh, man. As soon as you brought this up in Discord, I was my mind immediately went to fuck. What what's his name from Final Fantasy six? It's Blade? No.
[00:39:31] - [Aaron]
It's not Blade. I don't
[00:39:32] - [Greg]
think it's Blade. I haven't played six, so I don't know. I remember the first ninja game I remember playing was what was it called? It was the ninja game on Sega Master System. Was it Shinobi?
[00:39:48] - [Greg]
No. No. It was what was it called? Sega it was just called Sega the Ninja. And it was like a it was like it wasn't like a side scroller.
[00:40:02] - [Greg]
It was like
[00:40:03] - [Aaron]
Holy shit. I'm looking at it.
[00:40:05] - [Greg]
It was like up and down. And this game was fucking hard as nails, especially for, like, very young Greg. I couldn't I I I I don't think I've seen beyond the first level ever. This looks holy shit.
[00:40:22] - [Aaron]
This looks I mean, yeah, master system was pretty rough, but
[00:40:25] - [Greg]
I also had but I also had Shinobi on the master system. And that one, I got much much farther in.
[00:40:33] - [Aaron]
That's good.
[00:40:34] - [Greg]
But that that game also, remember being fucking hard as nails.
[00:40:38] - [Aaron]
You know what? Shout out to Jerry. We we can't talk about ninjas without bringing up Goemon. I know he's the the Goemon fanatic of the group. So, yeah, shout out to Goemon.
[00:40:47] - [Aaron]
I haven't played a whole lot of Goemon outside of, like I played a little a good amount of the the SNES one. I think it was just Mystical Ninja starring Goemon, or it was Mystical Ninja or something. That was kinda cool, but I've been meaning to play the n 64 ones because Jerry talks him up all the goddamn time.
[00:41:06] - [Greg]
He he that he does. And when he does, it's unfortunately, it's just like, brother, I I don't know that I get it, but I'm glad you're happy. Because it it because it's like he's always like he goes on. It's like, Greg, you gotta play Goemon. And it's like, oh, I don't know that I have to play Goemon.
[00:41:27] - [Aaron]
It's like, Jerry, I'm already in the middle of, like, 16 other things.
[00:41:32] - [Greg]
Yes. That's the reason why. The only reason why. Got too much I've
[00:41:37] - [Aaron]
got too much going on. You know what? We can't talk about samurais and ninjas without bringing up Samurai showdown. Hell, yeah. Sam show?
[00:41:48] - [Greg]
I remember the first time I saw Sam show, I was going to swimming lessons at the Howard Johnson, and they had the little, like, vending machine room that also had two, like, arcade cabinets. And they had one, like they had, like, one Neo Geo arcade cabinet, and it had, like, a bunch of, like, the like, it was, like, like, the SNK games. And I always, like I was always wanting to be, mom, can I please have a quarter? I really wanna play these games. I never played got a single quarter from my mother.
[00:42:20] - [Greg]
Oh. She was basically, like, you're you are here to swim. And that that was it.
[00:42:26] - [Aaron]
She fucking throws you into the pool. She grabs you by, like, one arm and one leg and does, like, a cool spin and throws you into the pool.
[00:42:33] - [Greg]
Yeah. But I've never seen it. And I would just watch, like, the, like, the the, like, the demo. Yeah. Like, track mode?
[00:42:42] - [Greg]
The attract mode. Yeah. The attract mode of of it. It's like, Blenny, play this game, and I never ever never
[00:42:49] - [Aaron]
ever got to. You know, it's it's weird, like, talking to, like, I never saw any of these Neo Geo cabinets anywhere in Iowa. And, I mean, that's probably just an Iowa thing because, like, nobody lives here except me, I guess. Be all we ever saw, like, all you ever see as far as arcades in Iowa is, like, for sure Pac Man. They're always gonna have Pac Man.
[00:43:12] - [Aaron]
They've got all the white people shit like Pac Man and fucking what's the other one? The the Fast and the Furious one. And, like, maybe some sometimes they'll have Galaga, but yeah. No. I've I've never seen a Neo Geo cabinet in real life, and goddamn it, I want to.
[00:43:32] - [Greg]
Imagine my surprise living in small town Ontario, Canada, seeing never have been never seen an arcade outside of, like, the city, if if that, really. I had never been seen an arcade. And then just randomly in in this hotel, there's just two cabinets, and it's Neo Geo cabinets. It's like, this looks like Street Fighter, but I have no fucking clue what this is. This is completely different.
[00:44:02] - [Greg]
Yeah. It was a wild time.
[00:44:05] - [Aaron]
I think I remember there was one time we went to this mall in in a bigger town, Sioux City, Iowa. We went to I think it was called Aladdin's Palace is what the name of this place was. And they had casino. It sounds like a casino. It was a full blown arcade.
[00:44:23] - [Aaron]
They had I forget which they had a Soul Caliber there. I think it was three
[00:44:33] - [Greg]
Soul Caliber featuring both a samurai and a ninja. Yep.
[00:44:37] - [Aaron]
You got Taki. Taki's good ship.
[00:44:39] - [Greg]
Yep.
[00:44:40] - [Aaron]
Yeah. Mitsurugi.
[00:44:45] - [Greg]
Soul Caliber three, that's the one where Taki had, like, the mask that has still had her mouth open, it looked like a beard.
[00:44:51] - [Aaron]
That's right. Yeah. I'm trying to remember. I think I remember I think it was, like, Soul Caliber yeah. Soul Caliber two had the joke weapons, and her joke weapons were, like, tobacco pipes, or anytime she hit an enemy, it would make, like, a choo choo train sound.
[00:45:04] - [Aaron]
Yeah. Yeah. That was a good trip.
[00:45:07] - [Greg]
Yeah. Soul Caliber, Rottenwood ninjas. I mean, we're talking if we're talking about fighting games, I mean, like, dead or alive, that game is just ninjas. Oh. That's all ninjas.
[00:45:18] - [Aaron]
Oh, that shit had Ryu Hayabusa, didn't it?
[00:45:20] - [Greg]
That had Ryu Hayabusa, and then, like, there were there was What's her name? Kasumi and Ayane. They were both ninjas, and I think that's actually think that's it for dead or alive. If you describe to me any Dead or Alive character, I'll tell you what they're called.
[00:45:41] - [Aaron]
I remember I mean, I played
[00:45:43] - [Greg]
them for the gameplay. Drunk old guy. Drunk old guy was Virtua Fighter. That's Shun D. Oh, fuck.
[00:45:50] - [Aaron]
Who's the drunk guy? Is there
[00:45:52] - [Greg]
Virtua Fighter also featuring an iconic ninja with Kagemaru, the blue ninja.
[00:45:59] - [Aaron]
Oh, man. I don't remember any Virtua Fighter, unfortunately.
[00:46:02] - [Greg]
Hey, you know what? It's it's fine. You're not alone. Oh, goodness.
[00:46:07] - [Aaron]
Oh, man. Okay. Okay. So back in the PS two days, I back in the p yeah. This was for sure the PS two days.
[00:46:17] - [Aaron]
I played a shit ton of the Naruto Ultimate Ninja games. Oh, yeah. Yeah. I think one and two were the ones I played the most. And, I mean, this is kinda cheating because, yeah, it's all ninjas.
[00:46:31] - [Aaron]
But Hey, we're
[00:46:32] - [Greg]
talking about ninja games. Right? Like, it's all good. Not not just games featuring ninjas. So, that's a huge thing.
[00:46:37] - [Greg]
It's true. I I don't have you seen any footage from, like, the latest, like, Naruto game?
[00:46:43] - [Aaron]
I think it's Naruto Baro two, Shinobi Strikers or something like that? I have not.
[00:46:48] - [Greg]
Look up some of the not now, but look up some of, like, the, like, ultimate attacks in that game. They're insane. Like, you let it you let it finish her, and then your opponent has to watch, a three minute cutscene of them beating her up. That's They just they go on.
[00:47:05] - [Aaron]
That's kinda how it was in I think there was also one I played on three sixty, I forget. But then kind of the same thing too. Like, I played it online a little bit and the finishers were like, I I played Gaara quite a bit and he had one I think it was sand burial well, sand confidence sand burial, and it would take fucking forever. So it would, like, it would assimilate the sand super fucking duper slow and yeah. That shit was crazy.
[00:47:37] - [Greg]
Those trends continued because I I watched a compilation recently of just like these like the nutso supers in that game, and it's it's it's pretty it's pretty wild.
[00:47:46] - [Aaron]
Oh. Oh, fucking Katana Zero. That show was good. It's really good game. We we we spoke about Shinobi earlier.
[00:47:59] - [Aaron]
Did you ever play the the PS two Shinobi? Thinking was that the one with the with the chick on the front?
[00:48:08] - [Greg]
That no. That was Nightshade. That was the sequel to that game. No.
[00:48:11] - [Aaron]
I didn't play the PS two one.
[00:48:13] - [Greg]
I don't know why I remember that. But no, the PS two Shinobi is so fun. It's fucking hard as nails. But it's and it's it's it's hard because, like, if you died, you went back to the start of the level.
[00:48:28] - [Aaron]
Holy shit.
[00:48:29] - [Greg]
And some of these levels were long. It was it was merciless, but it was so fun to play, and it looks so good because you had this flowing red, like, scarf, and it was just super long. It would trail behind you all the time, and you would, like, dash from any to enemy, and, the scarf would, like, trail it was such a good I've never beaten it. I got to the last boss and kept coming close, but I've never finished that game.
[00:48:55] - [Aaron]
That's that kind of reminds me of I think it's Strider on PS one, like a full blown port of the Strider arcade game. And that shit was kind of cool too, like, you I guess the scarf wasn't as long, but still had the little trailing scarf after him and Mhmm.
[00:49:11] - [Greg]
Yeah. Strider's awesome, man. Like, the the remake not remake, but the the the newer Strider that came out in, like, I'll I wanna say it was 2013. Was Oh,
[00:49:30] - [Aaron]
yeah. I know what you're talking about. Yeah. I had it on Xbox one that had to have been 2013 or 2014.
[00:49:37] - [Greg]
That game came out oh, 2014. I was so close. What was it called? Strider. It's just Strider.
[00:49:46] - [Greg]
Okay. But that that game was so was so slick and so fun looking, and it's a shame that nothing ever came of that again.
[00:49:53] - [Aaron]
Yeah. Oh, but I mean, fucking Shinobi Art of Vengeance, that game was real fucking cool. I don't know how that slipped my mind for the first, like, thirty seconds of this conversation Mhmm. When I just recently beat that game and that was dope as fuck. Just executing like throwing shurikens at your enemies until they get those little marks above their head and then you do the execute buttons and you execute like 15 enemies in a row.
[00:50:19] - [Aaron]
Then you get bombarded with health orbs and money and shit. Goddamn it. The game was so good.
[00:50:25] - [Greg]
That's well, that's that's something that's really cool about Ninja Gaiden four is that when you and I think it was this is true of other Ninja Gaidens. I don't remember. It's been a long time since I've played the other ones. But, like, if you, like, dismember an enemy in any way, if you if you, like, do a heavy attack on them, it's an auto execute, and it will, like, zoom in really tight on you while you do, like, a really gruesome, like, finishing move on them. And they just you can just pump them up, like, back to back to back to back.
[00:50:50] - [Greg]
Like, it's it's graphic and it's it's really really fucking good.
[00:50:54] - [Aaron]
I remember that from I think it was Ninja Gaiden two on March. You could dismember enemies and I forget if it was when they were low health or whatever, but I remember doing that a lot, and there would be like limbs and blood everywhere, and fuck. Yeah. I wanna play these games now
[00:51:10] - [Greg]
so bad. But like, no, not just talking about about ninja stuff, we can talk about about some samurai stuff too. So like I said, I just played Ghost Ghost of Yotei.
[00:51:23] - [Aaron]
Oh, yeah.
[00:51:25] - [Greg]
And that game was one of the coolest game experiences I've had in in, like, recent memory. And, like, the reason why I say this is because everything in that game is just so fluid and organic. Like, it's there's not there's, like, not too much of the way of in the way of, like, you got you're, like, objective. Gotta do this now. Like, it's everything is is is just it's it's so natural.
[00:51:53] - [Greg]
And, like, you do the next objective because it's the natural thing to do kind of. You know? Like, it's and then everything and, like, the fluidity, like, extends to the combat as well. Like, the combat is it's like a rock paper scissors based on, like, different weapons, and so, like That's cool as fuck. Enemy will, like, put away their sword and take out a spear, then you'll switch to, like, your double swords.
[00:52:13] - [Greg]
And it all happens really fluid and combat can just, like, go, like, a dance of, like, parrying and dodging and stuff like that. It's oh, it's so fucking good. It's so fucking good.
[00:52:24] - [Aaron]
That reminds me a lot of oh my, I was just thinking about it. There's this fighting game on PSO. I think it was just Bushido Blade where you can you just dismember your your enemies. Can You
[00:52:36] - [Greg]
can cut your opponent's arm right the fuck off.
[00:52:38] - [Aaron]
Yeah. Then you can full on, like, break their weapon and shit, and that was cool.
[00:52:43] - [Greg]
And, like like and, like, it was, like, if you hit someone once in, like, like, like, a vital area, that's game. That's the match. Like, there's no health bars or anything. It's just like, you hit them once, that's game. I remember I were me and my friend, we rented Bushido Blade, and we were, like, young, so we didn't really get it.
[00:53:02] - [Greg]
And we like, and we would try to play each other and, like, one one hit round over, and we're like, what the fuck is this game? There's no health bars. I like it's one hit one hit one hit and you're done? And, like, we didn't understand the beauty at the time.
[00:53:19] - [Aaron]
Yeah. I kinda wish there was more games like that, but you don't see that kind of shit ever. It it's it's as video game y as possible. It would be cool to have a more, like, realistic fighting game like that, but I guess, well, no. At least we got good enough at it.
[00:53:33] - [Aaron]
You could you could know what the like, what what the what the tell signs are of someone looking to go for your jugular or whatever.
[00:53:42] - [Greg]
For sure. For sure. There is a game that is like that, and I'm gonna say it counts because I'm sure there's a samurai in it. But do you remember the Spike TV show Deadliest Warrior? Oh, yes.
[00:53:57] - [Greg]
Such a stupid show. Watching it back now, where where the guy is, like where the the the narrator from 300 goes, and this guy is putting his information into the special software from Slytherin Studios, and it shows his, like it shows his laptop, and it's literally just like an Excel file. But, it had a tie in video game, and that tie in video game had, like, simulation damage, where, like, you could take out somebody's arm, and then they couldn't use, like, a two handed weapon, and they just have, like, a stump that was, like, spurting blood. Ugh. I've we played so much of that game.
[00:54:39] - [Greg]
It was, like, it was such a silly fun game. Jerry was looking for PS three games, and he he has to he he has to load up on that PlayStation. I'm going to tell him he needs the deadliest warrior tie in game.
[00:54:57] - [Aaron]
Now that we're now that we're going full blown samurai, Onimusha needs to get a mention here because holy shit. Yeah. I I at that same store that we were at where I almost bought that fucking Guns N' Roses CD, I almost bought they had the first three games that were on PS two. I almost bought that whole goddamn thing. I I should have though.
[00:55:16] - [Aaron]
You should have. Like the the I think it was the third one that also had the French guy with the whip. That one I remember Sean
[00:55:24] - [Greg]
Rose. Yeah. Hell yeah.
[00:55:25] - [Aaron]
Yeah. That one was so fucking good. Those are both I think they have the remaster of the first game, don't they?
[00:55:31] - [Greg]
That just and the second game. They're both available now.
[00:55:34] - [Aaron]
Oh, maybe I should go back and buy them. Maybe I should just buy the remasters. I don't know.
[00:55:38] - [Greg]
I mean, Onimusha is great because it's just Resident Evil, but Samurai times. Yep.
[00:55:45] - [Aaron]
Oh, man. A lot of fun.
[00:55:48] - [Greg]
That new Onimusha looks fucking rad as hell.
[00:55:51] - [Aaron]
Oh, yeah. I forgot about that. Yep. We need to get that too.
[00:55:55] - [Greg]
Can't wait for that. That's gonna be sick.
[00:55:58] - [Aaron]
There was okay. My brain is cooking. I remember, like, few years ago, I loved looking up, like gameplay videos of the worst games of all time. And I remember there being I think it was an Afro Samurai game that was like one of the worst games of all time. And there was like a teddy bear head guy Yeah.
[00:56:18] - [Aaron]
That's seen him on the cover. That's pretty cool. That's cool
[00:56:22] - [Greg]
Samurai I played the shit of the demo for that game. My my memory isn't that it was bad, but again, I only played the demo.
[00:56:31] - [Aaron]
Yeah. I don't know what the fuck the review said, but everybody was like, this is the worst game. Afro Samurai, and I can't for the life of remember what the fuck was wrong with it, but Oh. It was on there.
[00:56:42] - [Greg]
I I promise you there's worse than that game. Did you ever play it came out a couple years ago, Like a Dragon Ishin?
[00:56:57] - [Aaron]
No. No. That was I think that was when I was still trying to play through seven. Like, I remember seeing it and it looked really really cool and a lot of people in our, like, little podcast circle were talking so much about it.
[00:57:12] - [Greg]
That's one I wanna get to because it's like, I like I like Yakuza. I like all those characters. I like Samurai and Feudal Japan. Mash them up. Mash them up.
[00:57:24] - [Greg]
That's it sounds like everything I want,
[00:57:25] - [Aaron]
and yet
[00:57:26] - [Greg]
I still haven't played it. Mash them up.
[00:57:28] - [Aaron]
It's gotta be dirt cheap now. I mean, if you Oh, it's for
[00:57:32] - [Greg]
sure it's it's for sure on game pass and extra. It would cost me 0 extra dollars to play that game.
[00:57:39] - [Aaron]
Or I mean, you're feeling real saucy, you can get a you can probably get a dirt cheap copy on eBay, like, probably get it for, like, $10 or less.
[00:57:48] - [Greg]
Well, yeah, no problem. Like the original one.
[00:57:52] - [Aaron]
I think so. Or I mean, I just said just the remastered version. This wasn't the original on PS three?
[00:58:00] - [Greg]
I'm assuming so. Yeah, it was. Yeah. It is. I mean, honestly, like, I could do that, but I'll I'll just download it on Game Pass.
[00:58:10] - [Greg]
Play it. Call it call it a
[00:58:11] - [Aaron]
day. Did remember in the last episode that we did together, you realized that you had that that new Samurai showdown. Have you played that yet since we since we did that?
[00:58:23] - [Greg]
No. Because I immediately I owned it again.
[00:58:27] - [Aaron]
I wanna know how that is. Damn it.
[00:58:30] - [Greg]
Alright. I I will I'm not gonna make promises I can't keep. I'm gonna immediately forget that I own it I own it again. At some point, I will download it, and I
[00:58:38] - [Aaron]
will give it a try. Okay. Good.
[00:58:40] - [Greg]
Did you ever play it was on Xbox three sixty. It was a and I think PS three. It was a game called Ninja Blade.
[00:58:49] - [Aaron]
I heard of that alongside Ninja Storm, I think, another one that I think that was exclusive to March. Ninja Blade.
[00:58:58] - [Greg]
Oh, Ninja Blade, think, was that was a that was a it was a it's it's a PlayStation exclusive oh, sorry, excuse me, three sixty exclusive made by FromSoft.
[00:59:08] - [Aaron]
Oh, yeah. That's the one I'm thinking of. Okay. Yeah. What the fuck is it?
[00:59:11] - [Aaron]
Oh, Ninja Storm is fucking terrible. Goddamn it. Yeah. Ninja Blade. I've heard many good things about it, but I've never played it though.
[00:59:20] - [Greg]
So Ninja Blade was this game that we don't we'd always see and that we never played. And then, like, one day I rented it, and we got some, like, forked copy because we were, like, loaded up. Forked. And, like, we we loaded it up, and then, like, there was no like, we heard the sound and, like, the the orchestra the orchestral music, but what was displaying on my TV was just a bunch of, like, lines of flashing colors.
[00:59:42] - [Aaron]
Oh, Is
[00:59:44] - [Greg]
this the game? What the fuck is happening? It's wild. But then it was broke. But then, eventually, I did play the game, and it was nuts.
[00:59:52] - [Greg]
It was a fucking time.
[00:59:55] - [Aaron]
That one highly enough. Did it did it use the same, like, FromSoftware comp, like, the weighty, like No. This is before that.
[01:00:04] - [Greg]
This is before those days. This is, like, this is closer to, a platinum game. Like, that style of, like, fast action. If I remember, it has been tens of years. I don't remember that clearly.
[01:00:15] - [Aaron]
Tens of years? But, anyway,
[01:00:18] - [Greg]
do we do we cover every ninja and samurai game?
[01:00:21] - [Aaron]
Think because I think we must
[01:00:23] - [Greg]
have every single one by now.
[01:00:25] - [Aaron]
I'm struggling to think of more except for maybe like ninja classes in RPGs, but that doesn't count that doesn't count as character. It's just like
[01:00:35] - [Greg]
Hey, I play I played as a a ninja in Final Fantasy 14. Let me tell you, it was a fun ass class to play because your hot keys your hot key is tied to, like like, hand hand like signs, and you had to remember combinations
[01:00:49] - [Aaron]
to do your skills. Oh, that's fucking sick. It was sick.
[01:00:53] - [Greg]
It's such a it's such a sick mechanic to have to be, like like, you you have, like, key, key, key, and then your character is, like, doing, like, the hand signs. Oh, it was that was that was so so tight. What else is there? There's Samurai Warriors, which I never played, but I'm assuming it's just Dynasty Warriors with samurais.
[01:01:10] - [Aaron]
Yeah. I haven't played
[01:01:11] - [Greg]
those either. Haven't played those. But, yeah, I think I think yeah. I think we literally covered every single samurai ninja game ever made. I think we got it.
[01:01:21] - [Aaron]
Yep. Yep. If anybody thinks of any more, they can You're wrong. Yeah. You're wrong.
[01:01:26] - [Greg]
You're you're objectively wrong, but You you dreamt it.
[01:01:33] - [Aaron]
I well, hang hang on. Guess, Chrono from Chrono Trigger has a katana. Well, I guess, no, you don't you don't you're not automatically a samurai. Oh my god. There there's so many.
[01:01:45] - [Aaron]
We're we're we're Fuck. Never mind.
[01:01:47] - [Greg]
We left away so many. Like like, I don't like I I don't I don't know.
[01:01:52] - [Aaron]
Sekiro? Oh, fuck. Shit. Fuck it. Doesn't exist.
[01:02:01] - [Aaron]
No. That's game's not real. Out of sight, out of mind.
[01:02:04] - [Greg]
Yeah. Assassin's Creed Shadows doesn't exist.
[01:02:09] - [Aaron]
Oh, yeah. That's right. I forgot about that. You know what?
[01:02:12] - [Greg]
Fuck it. Metal Gear Rising? Oh, my god. Metal Gear Rising, I'm not I won't brush that one off. That game is fucking sick as hell.
[01:02:22] - [Aaron]
Is he actually samurai in that though? Or is he just like
[01:02:25] - [Greg]
He is a he's playing a cyborg ninja.
[01:02:29] - [Aaron]
Okay. Okay. I guess that counts. That game is cool as fuck though. I want another game where you have that like that mode where or not that mode.
[01:02:37] - [Aaron]
That's a mechanic where like time stops and you have a moment to just chop off as many limbs as you can Oh, blame then take out their fucking hearts and, like, crush it, dude. Oh, my god.
[01:02:46] - [Greg]
Oh, that was that was really cool. Oh, something that we're going all over the place. Something that Ninja Guy before does that Rising also does, and they both both made by Platinum, so it makes sense. But they do this thing in boss fights where, like, as you get to the last phase of the boss fight in, like, the boss theme, like, lyrics will kick in. It's it's it's that's my my most favorite shit ever.
[01:03:13] - [Aaron]
Yeah. Jerry was talking about that shit too. It was like like orchestral like orchestral metal pretty much.
[01:03:21] - [Greg]
Yeah. He's like have like a rocking song and then the boss will be like, oh, I'm in my final phase now. And then like like a singer will just come come into the song, start singing. Oh,
[01:03:34] - [Aaron]
it's Goddamn it. It's Damn it.
[01:03:37] - [Greg]
Dynamic soundtrack is genius. I need to
[01:03:39] - [Aaron]
play that so bad. I know if you
[01:03:41] - [Greg]
need I don't know if you need to. I'll I'll get back to you.
[01:03:46] - [Aaron]
Okay. Good. That's it. That's it for ninjas and samurais.
[01:03:52] - [Greg]
We covered it all. That's all of them.
[01:03:55] - [Aaron]
Yeah. You know what? More coming to my brain, but I'm just gonna block it all out. Just like so everything else, I'm just gonna block it out by the sight out of mind.
[01:04:05] - [Greg]
Random recommended games.
[01:04:10] - [Aaron]
What's let's do some random recs. Just random recommended game or like an album, TV show. I don't know. What's do you have anything off the top of your head, Greg?
[01:04:25] - [Greg]
For this this is really off the top of my head. I know where it it came from. Oh, we also didn't talk about Mortal Kombat. Now, if Oh, goddamn. Just a little a little tangent, that's something that think that's that's really funny.
[01:04:39] - [Greg]
We talked about a FromSoft ninja game, and it wasn't Sekiro. Yep.
[01:04:44] - [Aaron]
Goddamn it.
[01:04:46] - [Greg]
Yeah. We covered it all. And if we have any listeners in the Chicago area, go to Galloping Ghost Arcade. It's one of the last ones and it's huge.
[01:04:56] - [Aaron]
Hell, yeah. I'm five hours no, six hours from Chicago. I'll go check it out right after this. Yeah. Just
[01:05:02] - [Greg]
get get to driving. I don't where that came from. It's that's an arcade arcade I know of, and somebody told me, he's like, mention that arcade. So go to Gallop and Ghost.
[01:05:12] - [Aaron]
That's your random record? Is that arcade?
[01:05:14] - [Greg]
Is that arcade in Chicago where I've never been?
[01:05:19] - [Aaron]
Hey, you know what? I'm gonna do a non game recommendation as well too. The new Soul Fly album came out on the twenty fourth or October 25. It's really good. They have a song called Black Hole Scum.
[01:05:31] - [Aaron]
Sounds like a cool funny rip off of black hole son. Yeah. They have a of really good songs on the album. I highly recommend that. I listened to the whole album almost almost twice when I was doing my work today and it's great shit.
[01:05:47] - [Aaron]
Black hole scum. Black hole scum. Won't you come? I'm trying to oh, the name of the album is Chama. Chama because they're Brazilian.
[01:06:00] - [Greg]
Cool. Chama.
[01:06:02] - [Aaron]
Yeah. Yeah. And that's it. Oh, shoot. What the fuck happened there?
[01:06:07] - [Greg]
No. I'm freaking out. I don't freaking out. Don't alright. I'm good.
[01:06:09] - [Aaron]
