· 01:45:55
[00:00:00] I play all the games though, I'm the one that plays them all I mean we play games too Yeah, no, Jurek thinks he's so special Don't try to claim that you're the only one that plays games, what the fuck? Okay, I'm the only one that beats the amount of games that I do in this group I still think we need to talk to somebody Yeah What do you mean, man? Everything's fine
[00:00:30] He says in a bear suit Aaron, fucking do an intro for the folks, spooky intro, go I will That's the spooky intro Sounds like one of those ghosts Yeah, exactly I'm so startled Oh god
[00:00:59] Yeah, that's a spooky super ghost episode, spooky ghost This is it everybody, this is the Halloween episode Aren't all ghosts spooky? I mean, not Casper Casper the friendly ghost, he's not very spooky Fuck all that, if I see Cas Neither were his uncles, they weren't very spooky either No No spooky ghosts to be seen there Weren't they like the three stooges? They basically were I think they were based on that But like, the spooky power of one of his uncles was fat
[00:01:30] Like, he was stinky, fatso, and like, slim I don't know what the fuck the other one was Stretch Stretch, there we go His scary power is fat? Is fat? Like, I'm so startled He was totally startled by this man's uncle's fat He was voiced by Brad Garrett too That was the best part I am his brother I'm a fat ghost Fuck it, that's my Brad Garrett impersonation
[00:02:00] Wow Yeah Welcome to the Brad Garrett episode, everybody This is the Brad Garrett episode No, it's the spooky season So we gotta do some spooky games, you know And I think what we've I think what we decided we were gonna do I mean, you know Greg has already outlined that I have a problem And that I beat too many games But we are going to talk about our favorite horror games of the year
[00:02:30] I happen to have ten that I played I'm glad the rest of us only have like one Zero couple I'm not gonna talk about them all But otherwise at this Yeah I'm just I'm gonna give you like my top ten list From the bottom to the top Bottom to top I stop And I'm just gonna talk about the top couple Because they're more relevant for right now But We can also talk about like
[00:02:58] Some of the spookiest moments from different games Or different horror games we've played Yeah, I was thinking that too Because there's some good conversations that can happen from that As well Yeah But before we get started, Aaron Why don't you get the business out of the way You get the business So everybody, if you're listening Go to superghost.site Go find all of our other episodes there You can learn a little bit about us too Go to the people page or about whatever Go there Patreon, two or four dollars a month
[00:03:28] Socials are there There's a cool There's a cool marquee at the bottom of the website With some goofy quotes I put in there So that's always fun and cool Superghost.site Check it out I guess I don't have anything For breaking news I mean, it's There's a lot There's a lot going on But I don't have anything in particular
[00:03:58] Okay Oh yeah, this just in This is the dumbest piece of garbage news ever This just in my favorite Facebook page Tito Which is just like Random static images of Tito from Rocket Power Doing dumb stupid things Tito's back Baby It's been a fucking year But he's back And he just said I think I like this little life And it's just It's just Tito That's so good Go look up Tito on Facebook He's back He's back The world is healing I guess I don't know
[00:04:28] Also, holy shit Moist Critical Revealed that he Earned a total of 35 million dollars On YouTube Holy shit That's wild He has since turned off Yeah Donations to him Because he doesn't need it Yeah Wow Good for him to actually turn it off Yeah, he turned it off I wonder if he would Loan me 20 bucks It's gonna be cool If anyone should get some money from him It should be Aaron Because he's like Kind of offbeat
[00:04:58] Moist Critical style The way, way, way Less cool Moist Critical I feel like you got a vibe Same vibe Here's some actual gaming news though Japanese game developer Tomonobu Itadaki Creator of the Dead or Alive series And the mind behind The Revival Ninja Gaiden series Passed away at 58 today Itagaki died? That's crazy Yeah 58, man Itagaki was such a guy
[00:05:27] Such a funny guy And such a product of his time He was like the biggest Sleazebag And was a big reason why May he rest He was a fucking piece of shit I didn't say piece of shit I said sleazebag And I say it with love He's the reason why Dead or Alive games Are very much the way they are Good man And when they wanted to tone it down Like he fucking left Tecmo
[00:05:57] What do you mean No jizzle Jiggle physics I said jizzle Yeah That's not No He's got Jizzle figgits He's got one foot out the door He's like I'll fucking do it Don't fucking do it Shaggy Don't you dare tone it down Have you ever seen it Have you actually had like Have you ever seen Jizzle figgits I just saw one on this On this post on Facebook He looks pretty cool Is he wearing his shades Shades and a leather jacket dude Hell yeah man This guy is Exactly who you want him to be
[00:06:27] It looks like The room director Aaron I can't see shit He looks like Tommy Wiseau What I see What I'm seeing on your screen right now Looks like fucking Joey Jordison Stipknot Someone from Kiss Also died According to Facebook Ripkiss Ripkiss Oh Ace Freely died I think I saw Ace Freely Ace Freely died Yeah Oh man He did Get him in the room or anything But don't worry
[00:06:57] Because Tito's back baby Tito is so back It doesn't matter None of this matters So Quantic Dream You know that That development studio Yeah They're making a 3v3 action strategy game What Isn't that That's so out of Out of pocket For Quantic Dream To make a 3v3 Multiplayer game Yeah I'm like I'm just Show me some Like show me like five trailers I need concept trailers There's like So like There's like David Cage is making A game like this Supposedly But it's like
[00:07:26] Is it a mobile game Like I don't know Good Good question Oh wait Is that the Star Wars shit That they said That we were working on No it's definitely not Star Wars There's like a concept art image And it looks very fantasy Interesting Yeah So like Super narrative heavy Single player games Now 3v3 multiplayer Could be interesting Okay Yeah Gonna take a hard pass on that I bet it's gonna take A real hard twist Where they're all like Serial killers Or something I mean I'm always curious
[00:07:56] Like I'll You know Hear Hear them out I don't I don't know Like It's always interesting When a studio That is So known For one type of thing Makes such a big pivot Like that Like I At least want to See it a little bit More of it So Cause sometimes It's like They have like A really good Passionate idea For them to convince Other people And At the top Or even I guess Maybe like David Cage To just Go in a direction That they maybe
[00:08:25] Are not used to So I'm at least curious That sounds You know Something worth Making note of Is it Is it a strategy game Or is it a MOBA I It says Action I'll read Read the text again It said Action strategy Called Spellcaster Chronicles Spellcaster Chronicles Did AI make that Fucking name up Jesus Spellcaster Chronicles
[00:08:54] I couldn't be less interested I mean When I said it was Multiplayer You weren't interested I know I don't know There's something I'd be curious To see what it is Yeah Yeah Like I would like To see it Whether or not Speaking of multiplayer I'm playing it Aaron Did you pick up Fucking Space Marine 2 yet Did you do that after No I'm picking it up Friday Tomorrow actually I'm picking it up Tomorrow Yes
[00:09:24] Holy shit Are you actually Yeah But I don't know When the fuck I'm gonna be able to play it Because I've got Rivals happening And I've got Pokemon happening And I've got Megabonk happening So I've gotta find Time to So here's what you do You drop Megabonk and rivals I can't Boom Megabonk is too good No I also downloaded Megabonk At least you're picking it up When it's like The best The best price I've seen it at
[00:09:53] Yeah it is Yeah A damn good deal Asking Asking me to drop Megabonk Yeah it's gonna be cool Is like asking Your chain smoking Great aunt To just not smoke Like you She's gonna go I did that actually I did that once Was it successful Yeah She died So I guess you were That doesn't bode well For me I mean I wasn't But the smokes were They succeeded At what they were Trying to do
[00:10:24] Mission Imagine like the Metal slug Mission Complete Mission Complete God item Teresa Death Her name is Teresa It's just a bottle Cigarettes If If If only There was Zins For a good old Aunt Teresa These days
[00:10:53] Or back then I mean Zins Did you get on those Fucking Yeah those Like Those pouches Oh Like the nicotine pouches Yeah Oh apparently I'm just going through news Apparently In In ZA Another death In ZA They changed the way Shiny Pokemon work And they don't Despawn Yeah Unless It's Defeating battle Or it runs away Yeah I know that Like
[00:11:24] They've made it So that Like Cause there's a Day night cycle That kind of switches Pretty frequently And so They won't Like if you See a shiny And then You know It hits like A big Transition Like an actual Cutscene transition Into nighttime It'll still be there Which is really nice Because I know in Like What was it called? Arceus? That If There was like
[00:11:54] Pokemon that were Only there during the day Or night And when the sun Would When you know It changed daytime Or whatever Like people who Would see shinies Literally disappear In front of their eyes And It was very upsetting Not I never saw a shiny And have that happen But I was watching A stream And it happened To somebody And So I'm glad That that's been fixed Or That they've changed it Now I have I have a lot Of questions About Pokemon ZA I have a ton Actually
[00:12:24] Because I I I do Want to pick This game up I don't I don't know When It might be In the next couple Weeks I don't know But I have a ton Of questions However I feel like That's going to be It's own episode In the next Couple of episodes Like there's going to be A full blown discussion With ZA
[00:12:55] So I mean I I've played Like You'd swear My list of games That I've played This year is like Only horror games Because I've I have played And finished Ten That are like Straight up Horror games But I want to I want to Have a A different Kind of discussion First I want to know What your guys' Favorite horror games Of this year are Now I know That you guys Have not Played Like Beth Have you played Any horror Anything Horror adjacent Or anything
[00:13:25] She's got You You have at least One from this year Do you want me to name it No no no no She doesn't She doesn't Like I was just Trying to think Like if we played Like any Resident Evil Or anything this year But I don't No Like I don't Play horror games I strong arm Other people Into playing them So I can watch Yeah So there's been No like Large Things that have Come out Other than Silent Hill That I watched Jerry play But other than That there hasn't Really been Something this year That
[00:13:56] Has been Big enough To make me Push someone Into playing it Or Last year I feel like Though I mean There was like A couple of months Where me and Jerry would Like randomly Play like a lot Of little indie Horror games Where he would play I'd watch Or whatever We didn't do that We played a lot Of UFO 50 Well That was Yeah Well Night Manor Last year Last year Oh I forgot about Night Manor We did Yeah
[00:14:25] We did There was a third one That I just had At the top of my head And forgot Did we Yeah Anyways I don't But there was Like a There was a couple That we did And then But so yeah I haven't I have not Really experienced Any I Probably will Talk a bit more About Silent Hill F when You know Maybe Jerry Discusses it But The other Thing I'd say Is
[00:14:57] I'm gonna Steal Some information That my brother Gave me And say that He said that The Dying Light The Beast DLC Was actually Really good He Said it had Some Surprisingly Good scares That he Wasn't expecting Things that He felt Like Were done Well And done In a way That He He's Like a huge Fan of Resident Evil as Well And He was
[00:15:27] Like this The Beast Actually Is like Genuinely Been scarier At times Than Any of The recent Resident Evil Games Have been For him So There's that He said And he said It was The They really Kind of Perfected His In his opinion Perfected Their Formula With the Combat And The Traversal And Everything Like that And He Had
[00:16:03] It's a Much tighter DLC For Dying Light 2 But Then It Kind of Became Its Own Standalone Thing Where But If you Had Pre-ordered Dying Light 2 With The Deluxe Edition Or Something That You Were Supposed To Get The DLC
[00:16:33] Included You Got The Beast For Free Oh Really Yeah So Bailey Didn't Have To Thing That's What Happened Yeah So It Is It's Own Like It's A Large Like Bailey's Like Size Wise Like Everything It Does Kind Of Feel Like Its Own Game But Yeah If You Had Pre-ordered Some Version That Included Any Of The DLC You Got This
[00:17:03] For Free So That Game Is On My List I Really Really Like If You Go Back And Listen To
[00:17:45] Love Aaron What About You What Have You Played This Year That's Horror I Mean I Know There's One That You Me And Beth Could Go On About For A Little Bit But I Want To Get Cooking Companions Out Of The Way Because That Game Like Oh Yeah I Didn't Know What To Expect What Is That Yeah So For Anybody That Hasn't Heard Of This Game Hasn't Heard
[00:18:17] Me I Would Keep This Spoil Free To Yeah Yeah I'm Just Gonna Go Over The Premise But It's A Visual Novel It's Kind Of In The Same Vein Nah I Mean So It's A spooky Visual Novel Basically But It's Just Four Friends You're In A Cabin You Know You're Having A Good Time On Your Vacation And Then Bad Shit Happens And That's All You Need To Know Because I Don't Want To Spoil Anymore So
[00:18:46] Interesting To It's Like Maybe Maybe This is The next One That We Play Together Please I'll Watch To A Lot Of Horror Stuff But There Were A Lot Of Moments In Cooking Companions Where I Had To Like Stop For A Minute And Kind Of Collect Myself And I Was Kind Of Like A Little
[00:19:16] Physically Ill I A Fan Of Those Like Spooky Just Like Not What You Expect Visual Novels Cooking Companions Is Like It For You And The Other Game Was
[00:19:46] Mouth Was Which Is One Of Those Rare Games That You Only Need To Play Once To Understand And Fuck Well That Game's Whole Story Like The Way It's Told And The Way You Like Put It Together Peace By Peace Two Hours In The Future And The Peace From Yeah Holy Shit That Game Was So Fucking Good And The Story Dude I Don't Know How Much I Can Say About It Not Spoiling Anything But Mouth Washing Fucking Rocked
[00:20:16] Yeah Yeah I'll Say As The Horror Aficionado Here Or Whatever Sommelier That's Your Official Horror Aficionado Or Whatever Sommelier Mouthwashing Is An Incredible Piece Of Art Outside Of The Medium Of Video Games It's Not Like Anything I Have Experienced In A Very Long Time That
[00:21:27] yeah yeah that game that game is like it's only a couple hours long and it is top-notch horror i think just go get it the thing that i liked about i would i would also say like you know play it with someone like me and jerry did because um yeah it took a couple hours for him to beat it and so it wasn't like a big commitment um but we spent like weeks
[00:21:59] dissecting yeah dissecting it and messaging it back and forth about it i've watched like so many youtube videos about it getting other people's perspectives listening to them kind of like dissect how they felt and like maybe kind of put together things that even i like you know i didn't notice immediately and i i really i don't know why there's something about it that i've attached
[00:22:25] to so strongly in a way that i i i really it was all like immediate and then it's only grown and um hell yeah it's like in my top 10 probably favorite games of all time because games not just horror like games games because i think that for anyone who's interested in horror like yes play that for sure
[00:22:51] you're interested in psychological storytelling yeah you know there's that aspect as well but something that mouthwashing does that is like one of my favorite things that any video can game uh can do is make it so like it's very like the way the game plays this and the story are so overlaid with each
[00:23:16] other it became something that i was like this in a lot of ways is only a story that a video game could tell and it really that's what i meant by like it outside of the the medium of video games it's just it's a piece of art that like yeah it's interactive in a way that you like you just it's it's the perfect example of like you just can't really get the same type of fear stress anxiety like all that
[00:23:43] exaggerated feelings from anything else other than video games sometimes like obviously like movies and shit do it too and well real life situations and other things but yeah this is just one of those things that just yeah it's different get like to your point jerry there was like and you saying the um some like a visceral visceral reaction um there was a like an objective that popped up and me and jerry
[00:24:10] both immediately went felt so much dread we both out loud we're like oh no i uh like i laid my controller down yeah for for a good while yeah and that's like that's how you use like things that are video gamey like objectives popping up in the corner to instill dread and like just i i think it just is
[00:24:37] like really yeah i don't know if like the guys that and girls and whoever that worked on this game at wrong organ i don't know if they knew what they were doing or if it was just like some crazy coincidence of like lightning in a bottle and they were like oh fuck we made a masterpiece oh shit okay but like they did it they they made a a masterpiece yeah in my opinion like i thought don't look anything up
[00:25:02] just go in um blind as blind as you can even from us like saying what we did i would still just try and be as blind as possible going in great did you play or see mouth washing i did how did you feel about it not as enthusiastic as everyone else in this room yeah i kind of figured as much but what didn't you like about it i didn't say i didn't like it
[00:25:30] oh you're just not as enthusiastic i'm just not as enthusiastic as everybody else in this room but one thing that really um after after i beat mouth washing and i had time to like kind of kind of sit and digest what i had just what i just consumed basically um i i kind of compared the story or like a part of the story a little bit to berserk with like the eclipse in a way
[00:25:55] kind of oh like i never made that connection before yeah jerry jerry understands oh my god yeah it it took me like a little bit after i really understood what happened i was like dude this is like that was a big like griffith moment and i don't yeah i'm trying to make this as vague as possible but yeah any of anybody in the audience please please read berserk beth please i think you'll
[00:26:23] like it if you like dark shit well i don't necessarily like it's tough dark shit like fully um but there every now and again something just like comes out of nowhere and just blindsides you really yeah yeah and it was it came together in a way that i feel like was just
[00:26:48] top tier next level you know um greg what have you what have you digested this year in horror if anything uh i'm about halfway watching through watching like some streamers that i enjoy uh go through silent hill f that's about it though okay how do you feel about silent hill f so far like
[00:27:15] what i've seen so far like it's i don't have much to say yet i don't want to say it because because i i like i'm gonna reserve all my thoughts until after it's finished but so far i like it should
[00:27:40] we talk about spooky movies too i mean yeah i mean there's been a lot of great horror movies out this year as well uh and i can see which ones i've watched weapons i mean sure that was a weapons was i mean what you i don't know if you're gonna be able i actually you know what i'll say this i'll say this my favorite horror movie of the year has still not been beat and it was bring her back
[00:28:11] i don't know another movie in the last 15 years that i've had such well i don't want to say visceral reaction for a third time on this podcast but i i like re coiled in my seat in the theater and covered my face and was like i don't know if i can handle this like i and i've i've i've seen some shit dude i've watched some very bad shit on film
[00:28:40] i've i've like i've seen some shit and this movie got me and it's by the same directors that did talk to me the one with the hand unbelievably good movie and it is just dread the minute that movie starts it's dread and i love that that's why i like hereditary so much because it's just dread hell yeah um but what oh yeah i was gonna say correct me if i'm wrong or if someone wants to look
[00:29:07] it up i'm pretty sure the weapon and not the talk to me and bring her back guys the people who did that uh they started on doing short films on youtube and stuff so yeah that's good you know i'm glad that they went from that into i think i think their last name is like i don't want to butcher it or anything um i think so yeah they are uh michael and danny philippo philippo philippo
[00:29:36] philippo philippo yeah so they um that's that's their thing yeah they uh they make very very good movies um zach krieger though who did weapons which was amazing that movie was incredible i've watched that movie twice i've watched that movie twice now and i got just as much out of it the second time
[00:30:01] as i did the first time um i mean part of that was me literally being like staring at my family as they watched it for their reactions to things like but i i thought yeah i thought that movie was insane and dude now that i know that zach krieger is making the next resident evil movie what the fuck dude it's gonna be so insane like that whole last 15 minutes of weapons i'm like
[00:30:30] oh yeah oh yeah i mean there's no zombies in weapons but like it's it gives you like the sense of like oh it's okay yeah if i mean yeah i don't want to spoil anything because that's that's the beauty of that movie is going in blind yep um like his last movie barbarian if you haven't seen these movies yet holy fucking shit barbarians those movies are like a master class in horror movies
[00:30:59] like and just perfect twists and god damn it i love justin long just put justin long in anything and i'll watch it please dude i don't know you like i love justin long do you yeah he's a good actor man i like him dude jeepers creepers oh my god i love jeepers creepers so much i haven't had a crush on him but we're like they'll probably the worst movie that you could think live free die hard he was oh my god i forgot he was in that or uh what was that college movie unaccepted or
[00:31:29] something oh also oh love yes yes i love that movie too what about his performance in tusk i mean that was pretty good too that movie is so that's rough that's a rough watch man that is a rough i thought that was gonna be a horror comedy dude no sir it was not speaking of horror comedy dude holy shit the monkey the monkey oh my god dude we watched that together yeah that movie was so erin and i watched that together i flew to iowa and we went to the theaters together
[00:31:58] that's true that happened no we watched it on flex no it didn't i'm i'm just looking for beth's reaction because i can't really see greg's because greg is just hanging out with his ghost friends yeah i it was like no you didn't and then i went and he kind of lied to us i'm like no he didn't he lied to me beth went through the stages of grief that i would have went to iowa to visit
[00:32:22] erin over visiting yeah i didn't go through the stages of grief i went no he didn't do that i went that bastard and then went no um yeah that movie the dude the monkey was so good ridiculous every single death was like they were they were trying to go for an almost like trampled by horses
[00:32:46] all of a sudden was crazy um the pool the pool was oh my god bonkers and then there's there's one scene that like ruined me dude that you you asked me to pause the fucking movie because of this scene there was and it was like not even like it was a nothing burger of a scene but like this phone is ringing and nobody is on screen it's just this shot of this phone and you just hear like this guy
[00:33:14] power walking to this phone like out of breath it's just like running to the phone like like as fast as he can running to the phone and answers it that just that had to be going i don't know why dude oh yeah yeah you were crying at that um maybe i don't know if this is a i guess it is have any of
[00:33:38] you watched the um the new uh monster ed gein story on netflix i sure have that first episode is a dues but uh that first episode do try getting the rest of the the show down because the rest of the show is a lot it's fucking a lot dude just so you know just so you guys know and that everyone who listens
[00:34:04] potentially can know it is wildly inaccurate to his actual oh yeah so don't really yeah yeah he did not sound like winnie the pooh for one thing okay thank god he didn't have that voice god that voice his mother augusta did not act like that he had a good relationship with his mother by all accounts
[00:34:31] from him and anyone who said it in town he was close with his mom and he had a good relationship with her why did they even make the show then god damn it they're his father like used to beat him and augusta and he had never show that yeah so but i'm just i'm letting you like not wildly inaccurate
[00:34:54] and um you'll eventually if you i don't remember if it's in the first episode or not but they introduce um oh my god her name is adelaide yeah it's in the first episode you know she was not in a relationship with him they weren't in a relationship eventually it says they were engaged she had like gone out with
[00:35:19] him like she has said like they had went on like two dates and then she never talked to like never went with him again yeah karen and i watched like a watch mojo like factor fiction thing immediately after finishing the show because there was a there was something that they tied into it toward the end that i went huh no that's is that even possible let me look this up i don't remember hearing anything about this from this other serial killer that they like linked him into that story
[00:35:48] there's known serial killer and i was like ever mentioned ad gene like it is i was like what the the fuck is this i will say this though i'll say this yeah poor old fucking eddie uh he he did some bad shit though he did some bad shit yeah oh yeah just if you want to watch it from like a like an entertainment standpoint and stuff absolutely it's not it's not a it's not a documentary series by any
[00:36:15] stretch of the means none of these are like i mean they are fantastical versions of these of these serial killers yeah like i i'll say that it's probably my least favorite of the three that are out now i really like the menendez one and i i did really like the dommer watch that yeah yeah the the menendez brothers one is really good uh the dommer one is in my opinion is so far the best one still
[00:36:39] yep um oh this one is not it's not what who's the actor that plays dommer again um uh peters uh evan peters yeah yeah he's good great job great guy useless knowledge um yeah evan peters is great and yeah i would just caution people about this show um because like the last two seasons they were
[00:37:07] gory and you know they're they're graphic and shit this is like some next i like there was a lot of times that i was like just laughing because i felt so fucking awkward so yeah a huge huge uh advertisement if you aren't cool with necrophilia and seeing it happen maybe skip oh shit yeah also something
[00:37:32] that didn't happen god damn it so just just so that like you know when you're watching it and you're like holy shit dude it's look a lot yeah it is a lot it's really fucked but also like i don't know before you start for anyone other than ed gein these were real people who weren't really involved in are very grossly miscategorized and some of them have kids who are still alive and everything like
[00:37:59] that so at least like look into it if before you kind of you know you were like before you go oh my god that person is so fucked it's like they weren't in involved so it wasn't it wasn't bad but yeah it's it's fine it's fine and then alien earth i uh i quite enjoyed alien earth um greg i know that you have a strong opinion about alien earth that show was the biggest piece of shit i ever watched i wasted
[00:38:28] nine hours of my life watching this garbage show and i could tell the fucking director was editing the whole time and jerking off because he thought he was a genius this is no matter where i go this show is so divisive like i'm also in a group chat with uh with nave and the elder trolls and a few other podcaster buddies and they're all like fighting over so i i can't ever tell if i should watch it i don't know i'm so confused sadly you have to formulate
[00:38:58] your own opinion yeah because i i liked it karen liked it we're stoked for season two i mean the xenomorph is i don't know if they got the xenomorph is barely in it but the the time that no i wouldn't see barely barely in it i've never heard greg's voice get so loud well you haven't heard a strong
[00:39:25] opinion by the most interesting character the most interesting character is just put in a box the sheep yeah it's just put in a box the sheep was cool and then the bar and then it walks away and then it's like oh great that was the the one thing that i was like hanging on to and i was like okay this thing's gonna be cool and it literally walked off screen and god damn it was really funny
[00:39:50] because both so if you don't know i i that first alien movie is my favorite movie of all time um and so greg and jerry were both messaging me like little like every now and again about alien and it was so wildly different opinion and it was it was like amusing and i'd say halfway through i forgot who liked it and who didn't and i i was kind of like what is going on but it was like
[00:40:20] just yeah very different and i think one or two days apart jerry messaged me being like you got to watch it and then greg messaged me being like don't even fucking bother or waste your time and god dude i was like i was like did i dream someone saying i should watch this because i had like it had been a couple days i just had kind of like like forgot a little bit that you know you guys were different people and giving me different opinions type of thing so i was like
[00:40:48] wait didn't you just say to watch it no okay um yeah if there's an abridged version watch that you don't really watch all that fucking garbage a waste of time you know you know what new show or new series that you could watch it's not garbage dexter new blood guilt really yeah it was actually good um way better i mean no resurrection i'm sorry new blood came before that resurrection
[00:41:18] that's i just feel like dexter the original dexter in retrospect only had like two good seasons yeah but they did a lot better with these last couple seasons i would say after john lithgow then it really dropped off yeah exactly that's that season was the best season i think i agree but like yeah yeah that's the third season yeah trinity yeah that's so that's why i'm like i would
[00:41:42] say the third season is really good yeah the third season is very good and i like one and two are good too and i agree like with all of that because i i hated the seasons i came after especially the doomsday killer one throwing the trash but um new blood the the the one that comes after or this i guess the series that comes after that where he reunites with his son and he's living in like
[00:42:07] alaska or whatever that's actually like really good probably like my favorite of the whole series but then resurrection is actually also pretty good like they stopped trying to pull guard like stop trying to pull like garth brooks no not garth i almost i was gonna say i was gonna say pulling garbage out of their asses but that sounded real weird but anyway yeah i stopped trying to pull garbage and they actually made garbage out of their asses and throwing on the fucking script
[00:42:36] yeah yeah dice to resurrection and yellow jacket season three fuck that was so good so good i would say please folks just please please just you know what watch alien earth watch the first few episodes and formulate your own opinion because greg's stance is one of extremes sorry aaron they're doing their own thing over there i know love to hear more about what you got to say
[00:43:02] about alien earth i don't know about anything you should watch alien they're having like a sidebar fight so yeah no we ain't we ain't i think we had an episode all about that too where it was about that
[00:43:16] and the coys nose hit crack hamsters okay well here are the games that i have played this year buckle in we're going for a long ride top 10 horror games starting at the bottom
[00:43:46] labyrinth of the demon king oh pretty good it's not bad it's kind of like um uh like king's crown is a king's crown that those from soft games yeah you're right king or no king's no king's field yeah it's like king's field it's like a first person it's very like slow and chunky it's got like ps1 graphics um and it's like a horror game in like very like
[00:44:11] old japan okay it was it was okay if not very repetitive uh then we got the midnight walk at number nine which was it was pretty fun right yeah that game had an amazing style and just no substance whatsoever there was nothing there for substance it was just it was just very
[00:44:34] cool to look at and just kind of go through the paces but it gameplay wise it was not there's nothing to really rave about then next on the list is faith at number that would that would be number eight number eight yeah yeah eight yeah yeah yeah number eight eight is faith which is the atari looking game
[00:44:58] that had no business being as scary as it fucking was um it was a total mindfuck of a game um the story was fine i guess this they started leaning in on the story like pretty heavy because you kind of play through like three episodes and they all kind of connect together and yeah it was cool i played it on a plane played it and finished it on a plane you should go and find like there's
[00:45:27] like a true ending there's a bunch of endings to that game i i did watch the videos on the endings because i was like i don't really want to go through this again like i just i looked them up one night laying in bed so i looked them up and yeah it i guess fucked up it's it's you wouldn't think it by looking at it but it it goes to some places uh number seven speaking of aliens alien rogue
[00:45:52] incursion i did that this year in vr and it scared the fucking shit out of me like i filled my pants with shit the whole time i was the whole time just saggy pants filled with shit old sagums over here saggy baggy bear check mark check mark check mark
[00:46:16] uh yeah it's um it doesn't really reinvent the wheel as far as like alien games go it's somewhere in between uh isolation and also more actiony somehow like you do have these situations where it's like you flip a button and the sirens are going off and it's like oh fuck here we go and you gotta like start taking out a bunch of enemies and like hold them up like hold off open it up a
[00:46:43] thing or closing a thing it's got some pretty action intense moments but overall it it was it scared the fucking shit out of me yeah it was it was good i liked it uh next up we got luto luto is basically pt like it it it is what if pt actually ended up becoming a full-fledged game
[00:47:06] based on just that game of pt this is it's what this would be but it does some really insane stuff the reason why it's so high up on this list because it is essentially a walking simulator horror game which i just to preface this i fucking hate those games i do not like those games this game though starts to really fuck with your head with like perspective and breaking like third
[00:47:36] and fourth walls and maybe even fifth like that's even possible like they do things that are like very meta within video game development it breaks the it breaks the fifth wall it's traveling through time yeah i was like what i don't i don't know how walls work
[00:48:01] um but yeah it uh it it does some very interesting things to fuck with your head and i would say absolutely give that one a go actually i think there's a demo at the time of this recording there's a demo for steam next fest uh that's going on right now so check that demo out next up was a game that was recommended to me by greg called go home annie that game was cool as
[00:48:28] fuck yeah do not look anything up on this game i don't know i don't know if it came out this year but it we played it this year that's when we played it yeah i just had a moment of because i watched started watching you play a little bit of it at the beginning and i i checked out but sorry i had a moment of that was this year that happened i know it feels like so long ago yeah this year has been
[00:48:56] long dude this has been a long year i feel like like i've regressed to a child's brain or something this year because you know how like children like years seem like like a school year seems like an eternity that's what it feels like this year i don't know why but i just like feel like this year has been just like so fucking long yeah that's been my horror story i guess is that that happened this year it's been such a long year i'm the opposite i feel like this year flew oh my gosh
[00:49:23] like i was doing i was doing paperwork at work i'm like fuck 2025 is almost over it's crazy october's almost over i know shit's flying yeah for me at least yeah so i don't want to say too much about go home annie because greg the way that you pitched it to me was just going blind um it's hard to it's look there's a reason why it's so high up on this list it's it's a total
[00:49:49] mindfuck of a game and totally pulls the rug out from underneath you and it is scary i'll say that it is scary um yeah it goes to some places and it has some themes and settings that you just wouldn't expect it to have really cool very very cool so now now we're in top three we're in top three territory oh shit this is this is the cream of the crop number three can i guess silent hill f
[00:50:19] that's what i was gonna guess silent hill f i i thought that the the beginning and the middle of this game were fantastic i thought every time this game started to do something new it legitimately was like
[00:50:45] get the fuck out of here we're doing this now like that game has no business being as fucking scary as it is up front like up front that game is nerve-wracking because the enemy designs are terrifying and that yeah there was there was a lot even down to the fucking way the doors open and shit like the sliding the old traditional japanese sliding doors fuck that shit dude way scarier than any
[00:51:12] door that you open in like a resident evil game because you go to a door and it zooms in and you slowly open it and every fucking time i was bracing myself for something but yeah it um to me it kind of fell apart toward the end where i went uh i don't really care too much about what's going on anymore i think i just want to be done with this
[00:51:40] like the last hour or so of the game i was like all right let's just clue this up now i guess but one thing i will say and this isn't really going to spoil anything but this game has way crazier combat than you would expect it to way crazier there are perfect dodges there's perfect parries that there's like fucking charge attacks and shit and that like some bosses
[00:52:09] are like like ridiculous like crazy dark souls looking fucking bosses that you're just like what the fuck dude and like you gotta start like in general is really good oh the enemy design is fantastic and i'll say this anybody who's been hating on this because it's not in silent hill it doesn't make sense for canon suck my balls fuck that it's like who cares it's got the it checks all the
[00:52:39] fucking boxes for a silent hill game not to mention beth take it away you say it best well i would say that you know from when me and jerry well jerry was playing i was watching um there are like a lot of things that are incredibly like silent hill in the way that it is telling its story and you know the the way that characters are portrayed and stuff it has that unsettling uncanny
[00:53:07] thing where um you get really into the psyche of these characters and stuff also from a different i'll say this pull up my my nerd glasses here a little bit beth please get some fake glasses just so you can do that just be like okay i'll have to invest in them um i'll send you my old pair you can have them okay thank you but to get a little nerdy about this or at least background on my
[00:53:35] experience with silent hill is i um watch a person who speed runs he also does 100 lore playthroughs so that's my experience with silent hill is watching this guy 100 the game like every year or so um like all of the games and getting every note and whatever and if you're really into silent hill the white
[00:53:57] claudia is in um this town which is from silent hill one which is also the medicine is in this medicine that they're taking here was also in medicine that they were taking in silent hill one so the and it was shipped from it says in one of the notes in silent hill f that it was brought over
[00:54:19] from america um that's cool so actually it is tied in to the original couple silent hill games and silent hill itself is uh you know so the effects of a lot of the stuff that's going on in this game are because of white claudia which is also what the cult was using in the first game so get them beth
[00:54:49] yeah yeah so yeah overall i thought silent hill f was probably the best silent hill game that we've gotten since like obviously like two two remake was good and i i really loved that game but it wasn't an original game this is the first original silent hill we've had in a fucking long ass time and it had
[00:55:12] every right to not do that good or be that good of a game but they did a very good job with it and it gives me hope that we we can only improve now on on the silent hill formula and do things in a different direction it doesn't need i like i'm with you beth on the whole like i wish people would just stop acting like a bunch of fucking pokemon fans and just not be why can't you be fucking happy for
[00:55:39] a fucking game a game came out that didn't suck and people still find fucking ways to bitch better and i think sorry using silent hill the name like using silent hill um franchise name or whatever as a um area to explore sort of like kind of generational curses in these little towns because like you know if you go back to a lot of the original silent
[00:56:07] hill games they are about small little like insular communities where they worship some type of deity that then comes back and has like domain over that area like only that little pocket of place and so you know and it's a juicy juicy area to explore like generational trauma and like what it's actually
[00:56:33] like living in like get up in that juicy generational trauma you know there's a lot like from a psychological horror aspect there's a lot you can do with that and so i think you don't need to have it be in silent hill as long as like the core identity of these small towns with their problems that um and their traditions and their things that kind of like keep people kind of down or like ground
[00:57:02] into like crap like i think in some ways a lot of if you i don't know if all of you have but i mean i know that me and jerry in some degree grew up in pretty small communities oh hell yeah it feels like you are stuck there and the way that like it tries to keep you stuck there and those are feelings that come across i feel like in silent hill games they tend to be more horror lad and fantastical but
[00:57:32] that's what it is and so you don't need to have it be in silent hill for it to be effective in doing all of the beats and notes that silent hill did and then yeah just throw in the white claudia or something like that if you really need to have like a tie-in but like it's not like it's there it's there so but it's not necessary i really don't think great well greg what were you gonna say oh it wasn't about silent hill i was gonna say that fans of anything are never happy about it
[00:57:59] yeah i was so true the like the demo for there's a new star trek voyager game that's coming out that's basically like ftl but star trek license and really yeah it looks really neat oh cool and so that the demo for that came out with next best and the amount of people complaining that this fairly small budget game doesn't have full voice acting from the original voyager cast
[00:58:22] it's like my friends this is how much do you want this game to cost yeah it's like dude i was talking to a friend it's like instead of being happy that there's a video game based on a property that ended 25 years ago yeah we're gonna be mad that the at this point very old voice actors didn't record hundreds of pages of dialogue you fools yeah yeah fans of things can be the most miserable
[00:58:52] like aspect of that kind of like fandom and stuff at times like from star trek to silent hill and pokemon is really bad too but i don't know why i'm just thinking now why i hate stuff it's kind of you know what hot take it's kind of boring to be a hater it's more fun to like stuff yep oh i'm just you know what i'm liking i'm thinking now about like
[00:59:18] rounding up and wrangling all these fucking elderly people from the original cast of star trek and sticking them in a booth and they'll be like okay now give us a hurt sound and be like uh and another one uh and they're just doing their best but they're just old people now interestingly enough um i'm listening to right now i'm listening to star trek con which is a uh
[00:59:44] an audio drama greg listening to another podcast while right now right now right now i'm actually star trek con it's an audio drama podcast and it features uh george decay who was obviously from the original series and nice tim russ who was in voyager and they both sound while older so they still got it they can still they can still pull it off yeah george decay rules yeah he's he was
[01:00:13] he was one of the first celebrities to make the move from x to blue sky so he's already got the aaron stamp of approval from me man george to kai or to k i don't i don't know it's decay right that's why it's decay but i mean i've heard to kai as well so i've already i've always called him uh to kai but um yeah i'm a i'm a takai guy so to to kind of number yeah i was gonna say to roll it back to
[01:00:40] for just one second yeah uh yeah go ahead i i i agree with beth yeah like well my my point of is different from that but yeah silent hill i've always felt like even since like from the the third game on silent hill itself i felt like is not so much a town as as much as it is just like like a vehicle for the story because like um what yeah three doesn't even take place in the silent
[01:01:07] hill from the first game or even like the second game i don't even remember if the silent hill in the first game and second game were the same silent hill but uh yeah it goes back to the one from the first one because that's how they're going back i gotta replay that game i only remember the theme park yep same here but that's all i remember from that game and looking into a mirror long enough and some scary shit happened spooky shit go ahead jerry yeah
[01:01:36] actually got silent hill f say your piece what i've said you know stance i don't like the ending of silent hill f i thought it was at least the the ending that everybody has to get from for the first ending i didn't really like that i found it kind of came out of nowhere a little bit i there are bits and pieces that i think maybe you could kind of like come to the conclusion a little bit in
[01:02:05] advance whatever i don't think it was that well executed though and um i also hate that trope so i didn't enjoy it i think um yeah that that's my last thing i don't know i didn't watch the other endings i don't know much more right now beyond the ending that jerry got um but i i just wasn't
[01:02:30] keen on it either um the butt still i think probably the but overall yeah but the butt the butt the butt fantastic but it's a fantastic but uh it's still you know really good silent hill game when i can't believe you couldn't look up her skirt i think if you um i think like me like
[01:02:54] watching the playthrough while knowing what what the ending is is it's it's it's a game that benefits from replays which i think is true of most silent hill games because no knowing what the ending is when you play it then like there's things that you start to notice that are are very interesting um oh i don't i like that i just think i've i've said it enough the i really don't like
[01:03:23] the trope that it does um and while i i think horror in particular is one of the like places that i do give like more of a pass because of you know by its nature you know it's exploring psychological stuff and whatever i'm trying so hard not to spoil it i know yeah i i even going
[01:03:50] back and like kind of going through there's stuff that then kind of would break my my enjoyment of it there um can i say one pop like something i loved about it was the characterization of rinko i thought she was fascinating i really liked what was going on with her and her and shoe and um hinako i i liked a lot of the drama that was there yeah that love triangle like early on was like
[01:04:18] juicy and you were like what is going on here and i like how it was good i like rinko as a character because she's such a fucking psycho and so doing some of what it does to me takes away from the characterization the direct characterization that we are seeing in in a way that i find slightly
[01:04:39] less interesting um so that's i mean so bad that i feel like i'm not making any sense but that's my that i'll sit i'll sit um i'm done it was good it was uh it was scary the story was okay but uh yeah that brings me to number two this year caveat this year because i i played this game this year i think
[01:05:09] it came i think it actually came out uh last year that's fine let me just double cheese that it was a last year game but uh i don't care i played it this year crow country was fan fucking tastic yes holy fucking shit that game was good and it okay here's the thing one thing that i've been really enjoying
[01:05:34] lately number one when an indie game comes out fucking swinging when they come out swinging and they're like hey i got a really cool idea and they execute it and you can tell there's passion behind it not just like oh i'm gonna i'm gonna jump on board this fucking train of souls like games or metroidvanias and i'm gonna do the thing that i'm gonna make it pixel graphics pixel graphics i don't know who actually talks like that if if you have friends look jerry the bear folks if you have
[01:06:04] friends that yeah jerry the bear talks like that you should punch him right in the fucking mouth yeah um this game though has like the aesthetic of an n60 very specifically an n64 type game because it's got like big chunky polygons it doesn't have the sharp um polygons of like a ps1 game so i always attribute it to more of an n64 looking game and that's just got those big chunky polygons it
[01:06:30] looks super 90s and like everything that's in it is just screaming 90s it almost has like the look of like a pre-rendered background a lot of the times too um i don't know how else to explain that other than exactly that like it's just it has that look and things will move and they kind of move like not in the stop motion kind of way it's almost like they have like look like 24 frames per second
[01:06:56] yeah and they are like in a in a background but they're not it's all fully 3d but it's incredibly scary for what it is like it is it adds tension and it is totally the resident evil like classic resident evil style of like you have your map you're getting items you're travert you're traveling around this these maps you're checking like your boxes of like oh i've been to that room it's clear now
[01:07:22] because it's like green and like finding keys or like passageways and it like loops back and there's manual saves you can't just you know quit your game like you have to once you beat a boss and you're like fuck i hope there's a save room like after this door and oh no there's not there's a whole bunch of other shit i and like it just adds more tension and that's the that's the thing that i've always found
[01:07:47] especially in some of today's modern survival horror games they've taken the survival out of it the horror is still there survival aspect that i don't mean like you better eat your chicken or you're gonna starve to death not that kind of survival i mean like i mean like wet like managing your inventory yeah in a in a sense where like you're out in the field and there's bullets and you're like i don't have enough space to pick these bullets up and i might have to drop something
[01:08:16] or i might have to backtrack to that to my save room to like put something away it like it has that it nails that and then you know it's got it's fairly difficult like if you get hit like your health is fucked um and there are some up like you can find upgrades for weapons around the game and the story is like pretty pretty cool pretty creepy and like i i actually enjoyed reading a lot of the notes and
[01:08:45] stuff which i don't normally do i did it in silent hill f mostly because beth was like i really want to read these so i was like all right fine um but i i i actually took it upon myself to read the ones in crow country because it it was just really good so please please please please please please if you like horror games pick this game up it's so so good doesn't overstay its welcome i love a good short
[01:09:09] game it's not too short it's probably like i don't know five or six hours maybe ish like it's not it's nothing crazy but it's it's 100 my second favorite game of this year in terms of horror games i've heard only good about it i think i don't know if i bought that game yet but it's been on my on my wish list for a
[01:09:30] really fucking long time i would put it up there with like really surprisingly good indie game alongside signalis and mouthwashing oh yeah signalis i forgot about that signalis was insane yep um those three games yeah they they are just like the cream of the crop in my opinion in like a
[01:09:55] horror game that just comes out fucking swinging come out swinging more often hell yeah yeah so that leads us to number one now the funny thing about number one is that i threw number one on and i got discouraged for a number of reasons i got discouraged because a i'm playing on pc and this is an unreal
[01:10:20] engine game and unreal engine is a pile of garbage and it doesn't run good on fucking anything to do with a pc and you spend more time tweaking a game to run good than you do playing the fucking game that said once i finally got this game dialed in and i diagnosed all the problems that my pc was having
[01:10:43] outside of the problems that this game was having um i strapped myself in and i was finally ready to play chronos the new dawn holy shit i had started this game before i started started silent hill f because i think it came out like a couple well i grabbed it a couple maybe a week at like after it came out so i was only playing it like just briefly i literally turned it on and was like wow this performs like
[01:11:11] fucking garbage and i spent a lot of time tweaking it and trying to get it to work right and then by that time silent hill f came out and i had made a blood pact with beth that i would play that game immediately and not without her so i was like all right let's let's get silent hill going so we played silent hill that was probably like what four three or four sessions yeah it wasn't it didn't take ish yeah yeah it didn't take too too long for silent hill f yeah so then i go back
[01:11:38] to chronos because i was like i do want to like at first i was like i'm just gonna i'm gonna not touch this game at all right now because i'm so discouraged by how bad the performance is once i i read some things about it and did some research and i actually had to download uh because i'm playing on pc so i downloaded a mod from nexus mods to help with the unreal engine
[01:12:06] like for um because it has really bad traversal stutter now i'm saying all of this to get this out of the way because it's quite honestly only one of two gripes i have with this game that's the first one is the performance but that's almost like every game that's in unreal 5 that comes out on pc just
[01:12:29] is a pile of dog shit when it comes to performance um the other gripe that i had with this game was that and again this is i almost feel bad for this to be a gripe but it is what it is i thought that the the npcs and the characters uh besides like the character that you play as like anybody with a face
[01:12:55] yeah looked weird like they looked like they were like there was a little bit of motion capture there but it was pretty fucking budge man like it was like they like their eyes were like dead you know like there was no there's no glisten to their eyes like they looked very like 2005 eyeball physics right yeah and like just movements were kind of stiff sometimes sometimes they weren't that's what i mean
[01:13:21] like sometimes the motion capture that they had i guess worked fine but like sometimes it just didn't greg why are you mad are you mad about this mad about unreal 5 he's me i'm fuming mad i'm fuming mad so why no because uh i mean long story short vtube studio is connected to the hotkeys are always on
[01:13:45] so if i type something sometimes i will hit a hotkey okay so um the the npcs and stuff are kind of janky when it comes to like their their movement and like the voice acting is it's okay it's not the greatest but then you got to realize too this is bloober who literally last year put out silent hill 2
[01:14:11] remake and now this year they have this kind of crazy like back-to-back games that they've been working on this definitely feels like it's more of a passion project for them versus like silent hill 2 was like hey that this is an honor to do this this project we'll we'll do our best to i mean it too
[01:14:35] was a it was a passion project but if you look at bloober's track record like i loved layers of fear i thought layers of fear 2 was okay and then i thought uh observer was pretty cool um that one that they literally rendered the game twice in that like nobody's computers could run at the time the medium that was what was cool about that was like it was a glimpse of them doing a silent hill because they it's
[01:15:04] it's almost like they wanted to do silent hill they even got the guy that did the silent hill soundtrack to do the soundtrack for that and they were giving it they were giving it that vibe um so that was like a step up in a direction that was like okay this is different for them like this is not their normal type of game that they're doing and then it just kind of started evolving from there i'm pretty sure they did the blair witch one after that and that was bad did they do blair witch
[01:15:30] i thought so they did do blair witch i didn't i didn't i didn't hate that game i didn't hate that game the game wasn't good but i didn't hate it okay i i liked it like it like you like a a fucking cheesy b horror movie like it was serviceable enough that i was like i don't hate this um but then yeah silent hill 2 comes out and it's like oh shit when these guys have a little bit of
[01:15:53] money they can make some crazy shit and like when they have like a pretty solid direction that they're working in chronos is fucking wild i i i'm saying it right now this is one of my favorite horror games i've played in the last decade because not only does it nail the thing that i said earlier with
[01:16:21] crow country of putting the survival back in survival horror you are constantly feeling like i do not have enough ammunition to get through this next thing or like if there's like a segment where you're like man there's a room full of fucking enemies and i'm gonna have to like push this thing out of the way slowly but deal with them at the same time yeah do i even have enough fucking bullets
[01:16:45] to take any of these down no probably not but like i'm gonna have to figure something out and like it it puts that difficulty back in of like you you might not necessarily get through an encounter your first try because you might have to take a step back and go how am i gonna get through this and then again same thing inventory management it's got all that the setting is really cool um i don't
[01:17:13] really want to say too much about what's going on in the game because it does get a little spoilery essentially what you're doing is like you i'm gonna say this in a nutshell you basically work for the government sort of and you're tasked to go in and find these like anomalies where like you can travel back in time and you're taking the souls from people and uploading them because they have
[01:17:38] information that you need the cool thing that you do in this game is that when you find some of these people your targets as they call them um when you find them and you take their soul you're allowed to have three at a time and when you have their soul equipped they have a they have a passive buff like it'll be like there's more uh ammo pickups with with this soul equipped what's really
[01:18:07] fucked up is that these souls are literally in your head because you upload them to you so these people are in your fucking head talking the whole time and like if you stand still and idle they'll talk they'll just start like or just uh in one instance i don't know how many this happens in but there's one instance where i had i had two characters that knew each other and they started talking to each
[01:18:31] other and i was like i i left it on out in the other room and i came in here to do something and i was like what the fuck is that like i got so scared like it's because i heard like people talking and i was like what the fuck and i went out and it was just like them talking to each other and then like super creepy too one of them was a kid that i picked up and if you stand still they would
[01:18:56] just be like and they just start like humming and shit like really interesting little touches on on this this whole thing and then like then there's the fact that you can only hold three so if you find new ones you have to delete the other ones and when you delete them the people sound so distressed they're like no please please please please let me live please let me live and you're like i'm not ready i'm not ready and then you delete them and you're just like whatever dude i need
[01:19:24] fucking fire to do more damage so get fucked can you upload people before deleting other ones no oh yeah it's it's very sad dude um and then so everybody that i've seen talk about this game initially was like it's dead space it's just like dead space it's not really like dead space it's got
[01:19:50] like mechanics similar to dead space there's a stomp there's the isaac stomp um that you do the whole like and then there's like and then there's like you know like a a punch the guns don't act like any of the dead space guns they don't there's no like de-limbing or nothing like that um it also has
[01:20:14] anti-gravity stuff but it's done in a much different way it's almost in like a a platformy kind of way and it gets used in interesting ways like even with the last boss there's like some pretty interesting mechanics where like you're having to use the anti-gravity to like because you basically like will point at something with your gun and then hit a and you just kind of like soar towards that thing and connect to it so it's got like it's got some of that stuff going on
[01:20:44] uh the environments dude some of these environments are like legitimately some of the scariest environments i've been in since like resident evil 7 and like they're not they're not like some like demonic thing it's not like you're in a fucking well actually i should maybe retract that because a lot of the time you're the stuff you're looking at is just like gore like the whole like
[01:21:09] the whole walls will just be like covered in like flesh and like things like hanging off of it like people um and then the jump scares too uh there's some that really like put me out like had to had to pause i've i screamed out loud a couple of times because of the jump scares um it uh yeah it's
[01:21:35] and the other thing is too on top of the you know you're having to manage your inventory and all that stuff and your your ammo and there are upgrades again they're save rooms you find a save room it's got this nice synth like and you're just like fuck yeah save room and you can like upgrade your weapons and shit you got a chest um there's this like the save thing there um and like when you
[01:22:04] start this game off you start to realize that and i've seen so many people playing this game and like this game is impossible like this game is fucking impossible people weren't charging their shots you you have to charge your shots in order for them to really count it doesn't use any extra bullets but if you charge them they literally do double damage and it's almost like necessary i don't know if i
[01:22:28] out of like 4 000 shots fired in this game i probably didn't charge like 10 of them just out of panic so like you're constantly charging so it's a lot of like spacing and being like i need to make sure that i'm i'm away from this enemy and like keeping distance sorry you said spacing and you know it's like
[01:22:48] something that is so interesting is space space is so cool guys um no uh if you space is cool no joke no joke i then oh i'm so bad his name the guy who did like the first resident evil game george takai shinji mikami john romero totally is gaming so shinji mikami um when he was talking about uh
[01:23:18] kind of design for the resident like first resident evil game and like what how he created and like you know um he said um something that creates tension for the player like because all of it needs like anxiety or panic or tension like you know how you do that and they one of the things was that there is
[01:23:41] um a breath between the shots space between shots needs to happen so they're like um from everything like that's why like in the first couple um like especially the first resident evil game and and they tried i think two did it as well and stuff like that it was like there was like they made sure the fire rate of the guns was slower so that there was space between the shots to elevate tension with the player
[01:24:10] and um that is like uh that was like a core design philosophy for them was how to create space between like the shot space in certain things and how the anxiety lives in that space um so well they must they must have like taken that concept to heart because like it because this game definitely feels
[01:24:34] more like the resident evil remakes like it feels a lot like resident evil remake 2 and 4 okay that's what this game feels like there's a lot more like because with like dead space even i'm not talking shit about dead space or anything like i i fucking love dead space but this game just isn't like that like with dead space it was more about like how do i delim these things in like cool or efficient ways
[01:25:00] where i can like deal with other ones so it's like okay i'm gonna blow this thing's legs off so that it falls and starts crawling this didn't really have that like you could shoot them in the legs and they would fall down but they'd get back up like it wouldn't take up their legs um there was some pretty crazy bosses too uh in this game that i was not really expecting i thought that it was just gonna be like just regular dudes just maybe buffed up a bit no there was like some full-blown bosses that had
[01:25:28] health bars and yeah i i mean and like the locate again the locations you go to a school it's creepy as fuck you go to a fucking hospital it's creepy as fuck like there's some classic like places that you go to that you're like fuck yeah man like bring me to these like classic resident evil and like silent hill type locations but like it's all post-apocalyptic and like it seems very barren very isolated i don't
[01:25:58] i don't know dude i don't there's this game just fucking hit me right in the fucking the good parts at the right time it got me by the surprise damn right good yeah it was dinging my dong the whole time and it didn't overstay its welcome i did a lot of side shit trying to find as much stuff as i could it took me like 16 hours ish 16 17 hours and i was doing like a lot of side stuff um but like if you
[01:26:27] were blitzing through this game you'd probably get through in like 10 to 12 hours you know jerry's really into a game when he actually tries to extend his time in the game instead of short move on to the next thing because he's got to get 400 games finished in a year i actually debated on going through new game plus that's how much i like this game just because it's because how good the combat is
[01:26:54] it's so fucking fun to play and like honestly greg i really think you would like this game i think this would be a greg game i do there are some those i'm fairly confident in saying that you would you would like this game quite a bit just because of how well the combat is and it's got it's got that resident evil type feel to it but it's it
[01:27:23] moves at a little bit more of a brisk pace than than a resident evil first time you didn't stake your life on it though you owe me that life several times over my boy yes i i bet my life on oh here we go god damn it jerry yep how many lives do bears have does it work the same as cats two and a half i'm a bad old bear
[01:27:55] that's butters from south park i'm not being fucking i'm not making this sexual you made it sexual uh so yeah anyways chronos is far and away my favorite game in in the horror genre this year and probably will be for some time to come wonderful highly highly recommended i gave it a nine out of ten man when is that uh when's that fatal frame
[01:28:24] two remake come out is that next year for the frame two i mean 100 sure that's a that's another yeah fatal frame two is a really scary game i'm surprised i have early two early next year surprised you're not starting with one i have a couple of more games too that um that i want to play
[01:28:49] that are in my my list of things that i haven't gotten to yet um just as like a a fun little aside i i have a game that greg actually gifted to me called heartworm um oh yeah that is pretty fucking cool it's uh it's actually kind of like fatal frame but like as a ps1 game
[01:29:15] you have to take pictures of shit and it like hurts them when you take pictures um and then the other thing obviously is uh dying like the beast is also on my list of things i want to play and then another game that just came out recently and i do have it i have only thrown it on last night just very briefly after beating i just beat chronos last night um is bad cheese have you heard of this game
[01:29:38] bad cheese i have heard of that that's holy shit dude it's yeah mickey mouse because mickey mouse is in public domain now yeah and uh mickey mouse is in a really fucked up fucking world where his mother is like all fucked up and like you're trying to find her but like goofy has like blood dripping from his face and it's a black and white and it looks like the old like steamboat willy cartoons yeah
[01:30:08] and it's a first person game and it it i threw it on for like a few minutes last night i was like oh this is pretty fucked up this might be this might be nuts dude so you should play what the fuck is the name of it i think it's just called bulb boy it's bulb boy i've heard of bulb boy yeah i've heard of bulb boy that game was was uh it was spooky like some of the monsters in that game it starts off not
[01:30:36] so bad but like as time goes on in that game they get fucking like just terrifying just downright terrifying shit yeah yeah i have um i mean i got i had a lot of stuff on my list of ones i want to play and i might i might even get to them this year and we can maybe have more of a conference like maybe some of them might blow me away too maybe not as much as chronos did but like they might uh
[01:31:03] one of them is uh look outside which is a a horror rpg that is in the same style as earthbound funny because earlier and you said like you know games that copy like the earthbound style and stuff well it's that but like it's a horror game and apparently it is fucking scary and really messed
[01:31:26] up and supposed to be pretty good i also want to play grun and i have i've had this game for a while grun but i want i've been saving it and i don't know if i've even brought it up but in my brain i'm like oh i haven't played this because i keep waiting for greg beth and aaron to watch me play this because apparently it's like you go around like trimming hedges and like keeping this like person's yard up but then you start seeing like gnomes but then it gets like really creepy
[01:31:56] interesting oh yeah yeah so that's that's also on the list uh what else we got here on my what about amori is amori on your list it's not i i had amori like spoiled six ways oh okay never mind so like i've never really made it a priority i like everybody that i've heard play that game said it's just it's crushing like yeah it's it's great a lot
[01:32:24] yeah so i i like i'll probably skip that one um and then i feel like there was like one more uh maybe not koudelka i can't remember shadow hearts um koudelka yeah uh dino crisis three uh no definitely not that naughty bear
[01:32:51] oh no that that was bloomer did that really yeah that game sucked or wait was it naughty bear that they did i know they did like basement crawl or something and i think didn't that get turned into naughty bear i think so basement i gotta stop saying naughty bear yeah um
[01:33:14] random spooky theme um i would say play paranormal site that was a game that me and jerry did um a couple years a year two years ago i don't know time is weird um that was a random greg christmas it was a
[01:33:38] random greg christmas probably my favorite random greg christmas um and it was very suspenseful and scary it is visual novel style though so i'm keeping in line with my capacity to handle horror uh most of the time um and a lot more jump scares than you would think or like oh man
[01:34:03] like it was some of that game had no right being as scary as it was scary it was tense it was the story was cool and the story was really cool um i think at one point jerry kept it was one of the first times if not only times that jerry also got just as much into trying to solve um something as i did to the point where not once but i think twice he told me to write something down he said write that
[01:34:29] down and i was like okay so we're like a bunch of noir detectives i'm like write that down the dame is with me she writes the things down so i you know but it was it was it was fun it was a fun experience it was pretty pretty spooky um definitely worth uh playing and um i'm sure it's cheaper than it was when it first came out and i'm on i think most platforms so
[01:35:00] yeah it's usually on sale too yeah definitely worth uh the time but also at the very least worth like a look to see if you'd like it hell yeah greg what you got for a random wreck um i want everyone star trek voyager i mean yeah you can watch voyager it's it starts slowly but
[01:35:23] it really it really you know comes into its own really well um listen to star trek khan the audio audio uh audio drama a little bit hammy because of the nature of the format but it's really good it's got uh khan is played by the the one indian guy who was in lost and heroes oh i actually
[01:35:50] that's the best way to describe it i don't know his name one indian guy he was saeed hey saeed yeah that's i know who you're talking about saeed is a beautiful man yeah so he's there so he he plays the voice of khan he does a really good job of it he does a good uh ricardo montalban and then you've got you know like i was saying tim russ and you've got you know george hey you got all these people it's if you're a star trek man it's a good listen so far last episode that
[01:36:18] just came out on monday wasn't my favorite but everything leading up to that i enjoyed just fine hell yeah and that that that's a that's a good random wreck man it is a very random wreck but that's good that's the way it's done um i guess i'll i'll go um so a friend of mine and i we uh
[01:36:42] we recently played risk of rain 2 finally i've had it in my library for fucking eons and i finally was like dude just buy this fucking game it's like three dollars on steam right now so he finally bought it and we we fucking blitzed it what can i say like i'm i'm fairly good at roguelike games and i we just annihilated this game in like two sittings so and i i get it it's one of those things where like you know roguelikes you could you could play them over and over and get like all
[01:37:09] kinds of different unlocks and shit like that cool but i i was i was like yeah it was it was fine it was cool so he immediately was like dude roguelike games that are co-op are the fucking best hangout games because like the whole like oh let's just let's just hop on and do a run let's do a run like spelunky hop on let's just try let's just see how far we can get maybe it is maybe today's the day that we fucking beat it who knows so we started going down a rabbit hole trying to find a good co-op
[01:37:39] game and motherfucker we found you found a game he found it actually so i randomly am going to recommend that you all try ember knights because ember knights is basically co-op hades interesting that's cool very interesting it's i mean down to a t it's like you go in room clear room pick up money you get branching paths that are like this is what you get on this power up and this is
[01:38:08] what you get on this power up yeah yeah okay yeah so then and uh it's it's it's basically like top down pixel art hades like it's and it's co-op fully co-op it's it's good like i i did a couple runs last night and i was like okay and there's permanent upgrades too so like you're you're constantly
[01:38:35] getting stronger and allowing yourself to get a little further a little further a little further um yeah like if if either of you picked this game up and it's dude it's so fucking cheap i think it's only like four dollars or something right now canadian um if you pick this up i would gladly throw it on and do a run because it is it's a lot of fun especially if you're like i mean you guys are all playing fucking hades 2 and it's it's not going to be as good as hades 2 but it's it's cool that it's a
[01:39:03] co-op game that you can play that's a hades hades like know i'm saying yeah even better that it's cheap dude why are all these cheap games so fucking good like rokeos was fucking two dollars or whatever yeah oh we gotta get i i messaged you earlier this week and i was like dude we gotta get back to that we're gonna play some of that and beth's gonna join us and play with us yes please and then she complained that we didn't play it after don't make eye contact with me
[01:39:33] please beth yeah my uh my random wreck i'm gonna keep the horror train rolling uh well now roll it over baby derailed i guess because uh on track bringing it back on track i'm going with world of horror i uh played that oh the junji ito fucking game yeah i think well uh i think
[01:39:55] i think monday uh i i was just about sick like tuesday wednesday i basically died i just watched the shield for like six hours straight but uh it's a great comfort food no but yeah shield it's fucking good dude uh so it's world of horror though so so yeah i played this for a couple hours and it's still just as fun to play it's just all it's all black and white junji ito ass like illustrations
[01:40:25] but you start off you pick a character then each character kind of has their own cool abilities like oh you start with a flashlight and a flashlight can like blind an enemy and grant you a little more time in battle uh this character will start with a pack of cigarettes and i forget what the fuck the cigarettes do but yeah there's different characters that do different things they'll have different
[01:40:48] starting stats and um you'll pick like there's all sorts of ways to customize your run like you pick your character you can pick like a backstory that'll affect the the mysteries that you can pick you can you can pick a um a god that's like slowly awakening throughout your story and that'll have different effects on your shit as well like uh like what is it going or resting in your bathroom
[01:41:13] or in your bedroom or whatever will grant you plus whatever percent of doom or like i forget but then the more doom you have the more bad shit happens to you but yeah then you'll and then beth you watched me play a little bit of this game it's awesome like you did you didn't really like it oh here's how it goes beth so in your house here it is you're gonna listen and you're gonna like it
[01:41:43] you're gonna fucking like it so you go to your house or not your house you go to your court the cork board you have pinned up in your house like a goddamn maniac there's like strings leading to like this mystery and this mystery and this mystery and you solve different mysteries that have different endings depending on like actions you take during them like uh if you get to the end of one mystery and it's like oh there's a there's a big hole in the middle of this room do you want to
[01:42:07] look into the hole and if you if you nope the fuck out of there boom ending c if you do look in the hole and you fight the the terrifying fucking worm monster that's in the hole spoiler maybe uh you get a good ending for that but yeah your your character will level up you can learn new spells the combat is really cool because it's all based on like time so it feels very survivally in a way because like
[01:42:35] just just a regular ass attack will take like what 35 seconds or something or like a heavy attack will take like 50 seconds and then there's all these there's all these different actions you can take during combat like searching for an improvised weapon you can you can brace for impact and you'll take half damage you can analyze the enemy so you can see like what they're weak against or how much health they have shit like that what were you gonna say about you have the floor no i just thought i
[01:43:03] totally misunderstood what you meant when you said like the combat has time i thought you meant like all the combat is like time-based powers and i was like so is it a game about chronomancy like yeah my bad i should have no no when you said that you were like oh it takes like 15 seconds to do this or what i was like oh yeah okay okay because i was like for a second i was like it takes time from other
[01:43:29] people like you know they they regret or they lose time i was like is this chronomancy um sorry no i meant time the spice like the herb okay sorry sorry yeah it's really cool world of horror rocks go play that hell yeah cool well yeah indeed that's it that's our spooky episode hopefully hopefully you liked it
[01:43:59] um i i'm gonna have lots more to talk about in the very near future uh when metroid prime 4 comes out and uh i just want to say that i i really want to get pokemon za and there's gonna be big discussions about that in the coming episodes as well i may or may not buy it before then we'll see jury because i
[01:44:25] you want that metroid i i know but i got like um like a month and a half away like a full month november all of november away and then four days into december and then you know how much these games cost yeah rob a game stop not like they're gonna try to fucking stop you please sir i make 750 usd an hour
[01:44:55] just take it 750 usd i don't think that's right i'm just i'm gross exaggeration emphasis on gross exaggeration yeah all right well uh i'm starting to feel gross inside this fucking bear suit so let's get out of here aaron tell them what they can do and don't tell them to go to hell especially not this episode don't don't go to hell
[01:45:25] or do it's the spooky episode if you don't go there go to super ghost.site uh all of our episodes socials patreon it's there two four dollars a month uh everything's there including us okay bye okay bye you
